This is something that I have thought about for awhile but I think that athletes in general have a very skewed view of what they do and their abilities. It might be that you have to be able to think this way to make it to the nba. It is such a longshot that you have to think you are capable and responsible for anything. What are some of the most out there quotes?
This is the quote that brought this idea back to my attention:
“It’s like the girlfriend that you used to have,” Brooks said of the Grizzlies this season without him. “You don’t know how good she is until she’s gone. "
-Good on Brooks for = believing in himself but I think he thinks he is A or B tier even though he has been struggling badly on offense.
An oldy but a goody :
Sprewell saying " I have a family to feed.” and turning down $21 million only to be offered $5 million exceptions, which he also turned down and basically “retired” out of the league.
Sprewell being insulted at “only” getting 21 million is the all time NBA quote. I think a few years later his yacht got foreclosed on too.
that DB quote is far from one of the most delusional in the NBA. And he is definitely not struggling offensively so far.
But I don’t understand the whole scapegoat narrative when he averaged 10PPG on 39TS on wide open shots and shot the team out of the playoffs the year before vs GSW. And even after all of that, like you said, he turned down the extension.
“I consider myself right behind Shaq,” Dampier said. “Some people are going to say top three, but personally, I consider myself the second best.”
Erick Dampier
idk any specific qoute but I swear when drose was first traded to the Knicks Stephen A Smith or somebody was saying how they could rival the warriors
“I’m bring dominance. My name is Dominayton.” - Delusional Man
“I’m your favourite player’s favourite player” -Beasely
“Before the game I signed like 100,000 autographs, I’m kissing babies and what not and all that stuff. I’m getting my hand kissed by people; I got little girls come up to me, fainting. Once the game started, it was like, ‘What the hell is going on?’ I was like, 'This is weird. Did they take all the good people out? … I don’t worry about it anymore. I don’t want to sound super weird, but Jesus was hated, too. At the end of the day, I just worry about the stuff that’s important. If it makes you happy to boo me, go ahead. I’m still happy. I put all that stuff behind me.” - Evan Turner
“You've gotta respect a 15-percent 3-point shooter. A guy like that is always lethal." “It’s 15%, but it’s a big 15%"
- Evan Turner
Not really delusional but funny:
“If you go 72-11 and don’t win, it doesn’t matter. Actually it does. It means you cheated you’ve cheated and played an extra regular season game”
Lou Williams on the Clippers coming up short in the bubble: “We started to hear the rumblings that nobody is going to respect this chip so we kind of just took our foot off the gas”
