New to Reddit but wanted to see what others thought / would’ve done.
Yesterday my parents and younger sibling came from out of town to start our thanksgiving break. I invited them to go to an NBA basketball game that same day, being the first game they go to. We were having a great time, good seats (which I spent $800 on) and great environment. During the third quarter the selfie cam came out, we all scanned the QR code to get on the camera. At the same time, a beer vendor below us was yelling “Cold Beer!” A young guy behind us got up from his seat and waving his hands while screaming for the vendor to throw him one. Me seeing the whole situation, I kind of laughed saying in my head there’s no way of that even happening. Keep in mind, the vendor is at least 5 rows below us and the guy yelling was at least 3 above us. That means there was a total of at least 9 rows between the vendor and the guy asking for a beer. There was no way of anyone thinking that that’s a good idea, especially when you’re in a professional sporting event with an family friendly environment where you wouldnt even imagine that happening especially not from someone that works there. Next thing you know, the guy held the beer like if he’s ready to throw it (me thinking he was messing around), and proceeds to LAUNCH IT at the guy that asked for it. It makes no sense in any way shape or form for him to have done that. Of course the idiot of the vendor missed horribly and the FULL BEER hit my father STRAIGHT IN THE FACE!! We could not even process what had happened, my father got up screaming and we all stood up just kind of processing what had happened. The vendor tried to act it out cool but knew he had messed up. He walked away and came back in a span of the 10 seconds while I reacted and went down to chase him. When I went down he was waking away until I chased him down. He said he was looking for his manager but was walking down to the stands on the other side (makes no sense). I found a manager on the spot and she said she would help, she took me to his manager (he was a third party) and while explaining everything in anger, cops and workers kind of surrounded me to make sure it doesn’t get out of control. They took him to a back room so that i’m not in contact with him anymore. There was not much to do, his manager told me he fired him on the spot, the other manager from the venue took a report down as well with my information but other than that there was not much else to do. They offered medical help and my father just got checked to make sure it wasn’t that severe.
I’ve never experienced anything like this, this genuinely ruined not only our night but probably a good part of our thanksgiving break. I really don’t know what we could’ve done differently, the people behind us said they would’ve not only made a huge deal about it but also even sue the place.
I know this isn’t the venue or the team’s fault but at the same time they hired that third party and one of them is the one that caused the incident. In some way there’re still responsible and we feel there should be some sort of compensation.
Wanted to see what others thought about the situation and see what maybe others would’ve done. Thanks.
