I quit my cushy marketing executive job to start a consulting company as a soloprenuer.
I’m an expert in a specific type of B2B marketing that is fairly niche. To get access to my kind of expertise companies usually have to buy specialized software that costs 60-100K. I saw a gap in the market for smaller to midsized companies who didn’t want to spend their entire marketing budget on software they may not even use properly.
I thought my company could be that intermediary - expert in the type of marketing they’re interested in without the software. My whole shtick is, I can show you have to market with what you already have.
At first it was choppy but I just signed another client that brings me to 16K MRR, this doesn’t quite bring me up to my old paycheck but it’s enough that I feel I was right about the market.
I had to learn a lot about sales that as a marketer I took for granted:
- How to craft a good pitch deck
- How to reply to objections
- The tenacity it takes to chase down a prospect
- Prioritizing my sales pipeline
- Qualifying leads properly so that I don’t waste my time
- Cold emailing strategy
The majority of my leads were through cold emailing which I also had to learn through trial and error (not my area of expertise). I think I have it fairly dialed in now.
Looking forward to further growth in 2024.
Love hearing your story! What’s your plan to grow in 2024?

Very nice. What was your outreach strategy/how did you get the initial sales with your clientele?
What’s worked best for me is offering a free no strings attached strategy session. Who wouldn’t want an hour with an expert, right?
Definitely; and I’ve heard this is the way to go when it comes to cold outreach. Were your leads completely cold-contact? Curious how you obtained said leads to reach out to and how many responded to free offer?
