Always wanted Meze’s and the 99 was going for a good price. I’m thoroughly pleased about the overall build quality! Any tips for a new owner? (Where to purchase cables, best DAC to use and where to procure replacement parts)
Don’t get them wet or feed them after midnight.
I would recommend replacing the pads with Dekoni Sheepskin Leather Pads and using a balanced cable with them.
These two mods improved the sound at least on my 99 classics drastically.
In terms of a DAC I would get something neutral. The 99s already have a quite warm tuning so you want something that is neutral.
Best portable mobile dac Wired not Bluetooth
Careful when using it with a schiit mani. The scratchy nobb is really painful att low volume. Fiio btr5k is fantastic with it
The point of this “hobby” is to listen to your music, so you should go do that. Cables don’t affect sound, especially when you’re already paying hundreds for headphones. Just go use them.
I have them the only tip I can give you is change the pads, they were way too shallow for my years, if not enjoy 🍻
Fits me comfortably, and I have a big head! 😅
I suggest listening to them
If you want an excuse to get a dac and have money to burn , get a Bluetooth dac! Top 2 for different reasons , ifi Go Blu because its tiny and unfussy with a fantastic tactile control knob you can control from your pocket, and the only EQ is ifis XBass and XSpace, or the Qudelix 5k because its got so these tons of EQ options that if you would like to be kept amused with fiddling with the sound as an actual thing you like to do (they actually make fidget specific gadgets that spin) go for that.
I actually got the FiiO BTR15 along with the Meze purchase. I 100% agree that a BT DAC is essential for wired headphones! I watched Ready Player One in 4k UHD yesterday with the Meze and BTR15 and I was thoroughly impressed how good the overall quality and dynamic range was! A massive improvement over my usual Sony XM5 or Skullcandy Crushers (all tho Crushers is amazing for actions/sci-fi) choice. Also impressed that not single loss of bitrate occurred, which does happen with my XM5 or other BT Headphones on a random bases.
I was wondering where I got that black case from, thanks for reminding me!
A lovely set of headphones, I got a pair for myself last year.
They’re great for music but I also enjoy them when watching movies on my tablet. They are easy to drive so you can get by just plugging them directly into most sources, no amp required.
My biggest complaint would be the default cable but it’s a minor gripe. It’s just usable enough that I don’t feel justified replacing it, yet annoying enough that I really want to.
Use them.
Get the Dekoni Sheepskin pads! Major upgrade in terms of sound and comfort 👌
Screenshot. Thanks for that tip!
Ah i really want the classic… I might muster some change and get it… One day.
Use them happily and run away from this subreddit 😅
Step one. Sell them.
