I’m currently a 30yo software engineer making around 200k in Switzerland with 7 years of experience.

While I make good money I’m so tired of the promotions play and making money for someone else that I want to start my own business.

I have plenty of ideas that I started but never finished because I’m missing knowledge such as law, or how to execute them. How did you start your business and how did you find your partners in crime to make that nice startup.

You can start by becoming a software consultant. And take projects you would like to work on. This way you will learn all little things like law, corporate taxes, unfair clients, sales and marketing. Slowly, you will develop the business mindset and skills.

I am following something similar for last 3 years. I didn’t had any major success but I also didn’t had too many dry days. My annual income and growth has been similar to what I could have gotten in a job. But I am running my own business. And slowly working on build my business skills.

The benefit with this approach is I can sustain my efforts for many decades to come and with a simple 20% annual growth I can make it big by my 70s. As there is not much stress, I can be a good father and a loving husband. And hopefully my children can continue from where I leave the journey.

If you continue in you job, you will get bored soon. And your children will again have to start from the junior developer position when they join work. And if you go into a vc backed start ups, you will have to make many long term sacrifices.
