Legalities sure. But what’s weird to me is morally how it changes for some people depending on if he was in one state vs the other. Like if it was in OKC and it was perfectly legal people will go “ehhh it’s a little weird but no big deal.” If he’s a couple states over its “omg he’s a sick pedophile he should lose his career.”

it’s because some people don’t have the ability to separate legality from morality. it’s embarrassing and these are the worst people to argue with, about virtually anything.

i was talking to my Asian-born friends and both of them were like “She looks fully grown and doesn’t look underage at all.” “how tf would he know she’s not legal?” and kinda sympathetic with Giddey. Obviously different ethnicities age differently, though. I wonder if Australian high school girls look younger than their American counterparts.

Because the age of consent laws are not based on anything rational or scientific.

There has to be an age of consent and the legislature decided that’s what it was. That’s plenty “rational” As for scientific, it it was scientific it would need to be something like 25 since the human brain isn’t fully developed until around then.

You don’t need to be at your peak intellectually to decide to have sex. Sex is a very basic thing. You just need to be mature enough to understand what you’re doing.

            to decide to have sex

You don’t need to be at your peak intellectually to decide to have sex, but the decision making parts of your brain are not fully developed until you are 25.

If you wanted to be scientific you would have to make decisions on a case by case basis and judge the intellect and maturity levels of the parties in the case each time. There is no scenario a specific age is scientific. At least is should be a range.
