Hi all. I’ve seen a few drives described as recertified like the one I have linked. Can anyone tell me what this means? Is it the same as used/refurbished? They all seem to be much cheaper than new so are catching the eye but I’m not sure if it would be a good idea.

Buy from a reputable reseller. Serverpartdeals has gained respect in this community.

Refurbished = used = recertified. They don’t do anything to them except maybe scan for bad sectors and sometimes reset the SMART attributes. But Serverpartdeals provides a 2 year warranty for most of their drives as far as I’m aware. Warranty is through them though not direct from the drive manufacturer.

While I personally haven’t had the best luck with recertified drives, Serverpartdeals has always taken care of me.

Last week a 16tb Exo recertified died on me and was literally three weeks away from falling out of their 2 year warranty and they RMA’d it no questions asked.
