This subreddit throws dirt on any player who is accused of domestic violence or sexual assault. We have banned, insulted and mocked those who question the validity of accusations. In most cases, multiple posts get made, serious conversations get had, redditors call for their careers to be ended and people their associated with the accused get called out for enabling them, so why is Josh Giddey getting teated differently than every other player who’s been accused of something similar when there’s far more evidence that he did it?

Why was there a dedicated thread instead of letting people make multiple posts and link multiple articles like usual? And why in that dedicated thread, did the mods decide to specify that these are only allegations when there is the following evidence being confirmed and reported and they’ve never specified that before:

  • A shirtless picture of both of them where the girl brags about fucking him
  • Videos with him referring to her as his girl and going back with her
  • Videos with the girls brother
  • Confirmation that this girl is in fact a current junior in highschool and the possibility there relationship would’ve started when she was 15.

r/NBA has never taken the side of a player accused of something, so why does it seem like this sub-reddit is going out of it’s way to ignore, downplay and “Wait for facts to come out” when it regularly jumps to conclusions about every other player.

This is literal rape and the comments on the one thread it’s allowed to be discussed on is nothing but rehashed twitter jokes and blaming twitter detectives. That rightfully, hasn’t been the case for any other athletes/coaches (Ime, KPJ, Primo etc.), so why is Giddey getting treated with kid glloves for dating a 15 or 16 year old which is literal rape because minors cannot consent.

This whole situation gives me Brock Allen Turner vibes where the mods and the users of this subreddit are going out of their way to downplay and protect a player because he doesn’t fit the traditional stereotypes of NBA players and therefore he’s not the person they want to vilify.

What reputable sports website has posted an article about this?

Why do you think literally every media publication, beat writer, TV personality, and even the NBA itself hasn’t commented on this situation? This is not isolated to r/NBA lol

I think you’re making it complicated and looking for a conspiracy when it’s actually really simple, and comes down to this: believe survivors.

There’s a clear difference between questioning the validity of accusations in situations where there’s an accuser who is telling their story as a victim, vs. questioning the validity of accusations when there isn’t someone who has come forward as a victim/accuser at this point. If a victim steps forward to tell their story, people automatically want to express support for them telling their story; if that does not happen, there’s no reason to not let it play out and let the information that’s out there get vetted by law enforcement and reputable media.
