Like why? Sat down to watch at the scheduled start time of 1130 AEST (Australian eastern standard time) but tip-off was as 12. Is this an American thing that events start so late?

The scheduled start time is for a pregame show. They need a desk of 3-6 windbags talking about the game and other things for half an hour.

The NBA, unlike most sports leagues, publicizes the broadcast start times instead of the actual game start times.

If you want the actual game start time, look at any sportsbook. The actual tip time will be listed there.

That’s just time for the coverage to start. It’s usually 30-35 minutes before tip off.
