I will soon be becoming a father and an looking to celebrate by buying a watch that I can pass on to my son as a family heirloom down the line. Below are some of my key requirements:
- Ideally a field watch
- Under $1000
- Durable and relatively easily serviceable
Currently, I am leaving towards Baltic Hermetique, although I am not sure how well it fares on point 3. Any recommendations are appreciated!
Maybe something with a ETA Unitas 6498-1 movement? I couldn’t think of something that it is durable and easier to service.
Below an example of a deckwatch, but you can also get fliegers and other designs.
Thank you.
If you care to take care of something older, an a-11 spec watch from ww2 could be cool to have and pass down
That could be interesting. Will look into it. Thank you.
Baltic uses chinese movements with less common features like micro rotors. I think this is not ideal in terms of serviceability. You should look for watches with ETA or Sellita movements. Those are affordable and so popular that every watchmaker can fix them.
Makes sense. Glad I posted here. Thank you.
Glad I could help. As suggested already by others, Hamilton is a really good choice for your budget.
Make sure to get your wife one, too. Have the back engraved with something meaningful.
