I’m planning to buy a framework laptop for when I start university next year and was wondering if it can run games too. I’m only thinking of simple games like stardew valley, maybe some heavier stuff if it can run it.

Can it? If anyone’s had a play with the laptop’s gaming then any advice would be helpful

It can run easily but at least the i5 version doesn’t throttles so the fans are definitely audible which is kinda sad cause my old surface pro4 with an older i5 could run it silently when not plugged in to the wall.

Yes they can. And some more demanding things as well. Especially the AMD variants have some impressive performance.

I’m on the AMD framework and I’ve been playing WoW on it with medium graphics and no issues. I haven’t bothered pushing the laptop super hard yet

The Radeon 780M iGPU on the Ryzen 7 7840U has as much power as an old RX 580 graphics card. You’ll be fine.

The phawks, eta prime and notebookcheck.net all have good info on the amd version can do. I posted a similiar question a few days and those resources were suggested to me. The 780m is a much more capable igpu then i realized. Even cyberpunk 2077 with lower res and settings can run. The 13 ich is 60 hz and slow grey to grey so i wouldnt plan any competitive gaming especially fps.

I played all the way thru Dave the Diver on my 12th gen i5 while on the road. It ran the fans at full tilt and noticeably increased the temperature of the small bedroom I was staying in.

Game ran perfectly fine 40-60 fps 👍

Yea you definitely can, for school and a simple game like stardew valley? An 11th gen will work just fine, there is no reason to buy the newest version that is coming up.

Yea, I enjoy the genre of games. I personally play games no problem on Ubuntu 22.04 with steam.

Well I’m hoping the laptop will get me through the whole of uni and I’ve saved enough to get the 16 next month, so I don’t see why not. But thank you, I appreciate the help. Honestly I didn’t even know you could buy older framework models

stardew valley can run on a rasperry pi. It will run amazing on a framework. Depending which laptop and config you get depends on how much heavier it can run, but i imagine something like CS2 would run fine and if you go 16 inch with the GPU option Forza Horizon 5 should run too.

Stardew Valley is so low-intensity it can run on a 10-year-old basic laptop. I’d recommend the 7840U motherboard if you will get into more intense games like Forza Horizon 5 or Elden Ring, otherwise you can just pick the 7640U.
