Do you think it’s worth it? Have anyone that been there been asked for it lately? Also I’m planning to get safety wing insurance, should I get it before I go there? Do they ask about it at immigration? Any other important advice before going?

Appreciated in advance. By the way if anyone is in Saigon and wants to hang out feel free to dm me. I have an apartment there for a month and then I may stay another month or go to danang, depends on how I feel about it.

    Yea mate, best to be safe cause in our experience there’s a 50-50 chance they will ask us but we always book a fully refundable ticket.

      They didn’t ask me. Just rubber stamped my passport.

      But $12 is good insurance if you use OnwardTicket.

      You could always just step out of line and buy a ticket but I didn’t have a problem.

        Yea OnwardTicket is amazing! We use it for times when we have no idea what the next destination is but we usually try to plan atleast 2 countires ahead as much as we can!

    I used OnwardTicket for my entry into Vietnam back in May and almost every other country. I always buy it on the way to the airport just in case, it’s a small fee to save the headache at the check in counter. I’ve never encountered any issues

        OnwardTicket is not much different from creating your own ticket in Photoshop. Yes it might “check” on the airline website, but it will not be a “confirmed” reservation (since you’re not getting a ticket number), and immigration regulations require a confirmed flight. And if they get serious about it, they will quickly find out that you don’t have a real ticket and did this in order to deceive the immigration - i.e. the end result is the same as if you used Photoshop, but you wasted $12.

        What you should have done instead is to book a fully refundable flight out of country. This could be either:

        • A fully refundable fare to any 3rd country (you don’t need to have a visa for it);
        • Any direct fare to the USA leaving in more than 7 days bought on the airline website - even basic fares work but you’d have to cancel within 24 hours to get a free refund;
        • Any fare using airline miles if your status is high enough to allow award redeposition without fees.

        Otherwise, just use Photoshop/Paint.

          But onward ticket is verifiable within 24hrs, isn’t it? Like it has a PNR where the airline/ immigration system can check? That’s what I have always known. 😅

            If they check the PNR they will see that the ticket has not been issued (there’s no ticket number) and thus you do not have the confirmed onward reservation. Similar to how “hold your price” works at the airlines which offer this service - you get a verifiable reservation but not a ticket number and its not a confirmed ticket.

        I’ve never heard anything about legal issues. Like I said, I use it all the time, pretty much every month

    I buy it sometimes and then don’t get asked. There’s onward ticket sites that you can buy them for like 10 bucks and they give them to you instantly. You could make sure you were at the airport early and if they ask just order one real quick right there.

    you should have a real onward ticket for when your visa expires. you’ll have the expiration date so just leave that day or the day before.

      We bought our onward tickets from bestonwardticket, great service and real tickets, not just reservations. We traveled to Vietnam in March of this year. There were massive lines at immigration in Saigon, probably took us 75 minutes just for that.

    I get a real onward flight that I think I might actually use. You can buy one for like $20 to other places in sea.

    If you have a credit card, you can just book a fully refundable flight for free and then refund it after you clear security.

      Yeah that’s another option. Thanks for suggesting. I’ve been traveling in Europe so far so I’ve not had this dilemma before.

      How can you refund a flight with a credit card? You mean within 24 hours?
