So the Heat & Celtics aren’t intense rivals?? I’m confused…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the modern NBA has the weakest “rivalries” out of any major sport. By FAR.

classic rivalries are kind of dying in american sports but theres still some good ones.

in the nba fans are much more interested in player matchups and its rare to see a complete hate fest in regards to teams hating each other like steelers/ravens in the 2000s. In the NBA there are just far too many games to give a shit about any single one. You got a game tomorrow.

College can be a different story but that is the epitome of rooting for the jersey. Theres no continuity, all the best players go pro immediately and if they don’t they can transfer. Its why i could never get into college sports all that much.

I currently consider 76ers v Celtics, Lakers v Celtics, Mavs v Suns, Lakers v Warriors, and Sac v Warriors as rivalries. I’d probably throw Wolves v Warriors in there now too after the choking game.

I mean, you can either have to a “balanced” schedule or you have to choose regionalism (to relative degree), because the main reason the NBA doesn’t have rivalries is because the most you play any team is less than 5% of a team’s season. On top of that but the scheduling is also decentralized, so there’s no real rhyme or reason to when NBA teams play divisional opponents, they might get a divisional opponent 3 times before a quarter of the season is over or they might backload the games at the end of the season, it changes every season. Occasionally two teams will meet each other in the playoffs multiple times, but that’s purely by happenstance rather than by any kind of design.

Yea they def should have mentioned Heat Celtics in the playoffs. Heat Bucks are rivals, Celtics bucks, Celtics sixers.

i miss the old nba where people brought it all on the court, now they’re all soft, hence no rivalries
