Kagi has quickly grown into something of a household name within tech circles. From Hacker News and Lobsters to Reddit, the search provider seems to attract near-universal praise. Whenever the topic of search engines comes up, there’s an almost ritual rush to be the first to recommend Kagi, often followed by a chorus of replies echoing the endorsement.

Except they use Google only sometimes. They use lots of other engines too, including their own index. Also, Google isn’t able to track you which is how they make most of their money.

I’d prefer if they were 100% independent but I don’t think that’s realistic yet. Maybe someday. I mean, Kagi does have their own database and they’re bound to keep improving it. But I need good results today.

Same deal with Brave and Yandex. I’d rather not support them even indirectly but what’s the alternative? Support Microsoft instead? No thanks.
