Like I get having different kinds like headphone vs iem or open vs closed but why have 5 different of the same kind of headphone? Just get one pair that responds well to eq

Because I think, “I can sell these upgrade for only a little bit more” so I buy the next pair but never get around to selling the first, and end up procrastinating so long they lose enough of their value that it isn’t worth it anymore. Rinse and repeat.
I sold all my headphones and have one pair of IEMs and 5 DAC/amps, and they all sound different. It’s actually more fun than when I had a bunch of different headphones.
Most of them were for trying different things. Like I have the Sony’s wisp 500 or the linkbuds or the aeropex because I was looking for a good sports headphones.
I’ve bought the same exact iems and the sound is completely different. Second set isn’t as loud and the same Bluetooth adapter is worse as well. Moved out of an apartment and left most of my shit there. My iems being a part of that. Ordered the same exact ones along with the same Bluetooth adapter and quality is worse and when using the phone for calls people can barely hear me. My first set was perfectly fine and never had any audio issues on the phone. Not everything is made the same even if it’s the same exact product.
Sounds to me like a production issue.
You can’t eq closed backs to sound open, and you can’t eq dynamics to sound electrostatic.
Honestly… this is kind of why I started selling off most of my collection. While I still cycle through headphones and IEMs, there seems to be a handful that I always come back to, and others spend most of their time on a shelf, only coming down once in a while
I need to do this…I could easily let go of half of what I have and never miss it.
Just sounds like a lot of work.
I’m running into the same situation. The amount of work that I would need to go through to sell is what keeps me from thinning out the herd.
Mainly because I don’t use EQ much and I really like to observe different sound signatures as they come originally.
That and I have problems with my collecting habit

That may sound harsh - but that’s just it.
I don’t see what’s wrong with what he said. I’d rather own a very expensive, low-distortion headphone with extremely good technicalities that I can EQ to my liking whenever I want, than 5 mid headphones that sound different.
In fact I’ve done this, with the time I spent with an Arya. Worked utterly wonderfully.

I decided to just buy the Focal Bathys and sell most of the others. I am keeping a couple of special ones for my kids, but it’s getting a little bit old staring at the collection trying to decide which one I want to listen to like I’m picking out a shirt to wear for the day. The Bathys is on sale for Black Friday so I took a chance on it and I think it’s really great! No more fussing around with cords unless I want to go DAC mode, and it sounds incredible in either mode. It’s very comfortable and portable with nice punchy clean bass, and very clear mids and treble.
Because I don’t EQ. I have about 10-15 budget headphones now, which are just fun to play around with SOMETIMES, and do tests with. But I’m at the point in my journey where I’d like to just dump them all, and clear up space, except for an Aperio or something :) I have about 2x more IEMs, which are all unique sounding, and fun to test, also. But so small, they don’t take up space.
Coz not all headphones sound the exact same. So much EQ can do…
