I remember a Bill Simmons pod a few years ago where Bill said “Klay Thompson has one of the highest approval ratings” of any NBA player in the league.

Now he’s pretty hated on social media, reddit, etc.

Before you say his play has dropped off this year, (it has) he was pretty in-line with his career averages last year, and people were still kind of shitting on him last year too.

Dude never deserved the hype. Dude was making all-star games year after year over guys like Dame while putting up 20/3/3 (albeit with good defense). I never understood it, but I’m glad people are starting to come around.

    He got old

He was an all-timer in his prime, but he was never really the same after all of the injuries. His offense held on for a while, but the defense was gone and now his shooting is really slipping

For one thing, he isn’t nearly as good of a player anymore. He’s also had streaks of being a bit of a jackass and comes off as somewhat cocky

He got old and has an ego.

Before his injury he was an elite 2 way wing, sharpshooter, had 3 championships, was always a member of Team USA, and was soft spoken.

It happens to a lot of great players when they decline due to age. People start questioning them and it affects them because they are human.
