I’m looking into spending 6 weeks in BA early next year… the flight down from NY is like $700 but all the flights back to the US start at $1,700… is it always like that? Seems a little absurd

Flights too and from BA from the US are expensive.

    Why?

Because unlike flights to Europe or Asia which cross many time zones, flights from the US to BA only cross 1-2 time zones.

Because of the long flight time and not crossing many time zones, the airplane has more down time and cannot be flown as much versus Europe when the airplane lands at a time when it can be used for the next flight right away.

Flights out of Argentina are super expensive due to the three impuestos país. I always buy my tickets out of Santiago, Chile. Round trips from Chile run me $7-800 while costing around $1,800 out of BA.

I live in Mendoza, so just take the 35 min flight over on travel days. Bus over the Andes if it’s a holiday and flight prices are outrageous.

Santiago is worth seeing, but it’s expensive, and I’ve done it. So it’s just a layover now.

Set your currency to ARS. Most flight websites convert currencies using the official exchange rate, but you get a much much better rate with a non Argentinian visa/Mastercard, as in it can be less than half price.

Are you booking individually or round trip? I fly out of Miami, but get decent nonstop or 1 stop RT flights for 600-750

RT for 1400 is still expensive. I remember in 2015 I could buy a round trip from LAX to Shanghai for 600 bucks. Now one way tickets cost more than that. Man wtf happened.

Protip: use points with a distance based award ticket on an airline with minimal or zero fuel surcharges vs price based (lifemiles, Alaska, American, aeroplan, some virgin Atlantic, etc)
