I just replaced my old WD red 4tb with new WD red pro 8tb (WD8003FFBX) and its getting very hot and loud compared to the old one.
While I was transferring files temperatures got to 50, 51 degrees with a lot of sounds coming out of it. Is this normal?
Let me guess, it’s an air drive (you can tell easily as they look totally different , these are regular Red, well called now “Plus” even if there’s nothing different, but you get the idea, the air is the one with a hole).
title mentions the “pro”
It is pro. I cant find anywhere if it is helium or air filled
Just click on the link and then look at your drive, you should be able to spot the difference immediately. Does it look as the drive above (helium) or below (air with the characteristic venting hole and everything)?
Pro or not it can still be air filled.
Yeah, 8TB drives in general really need active cooling and they also tend to be on the louder side.
I’d say any drive needs that. I left a 3tb running without cooling and it got up to 60c
