I went to thetvdb.com site yesterday and much to my surprise, they won’t let me in unless I subscribe or turn off my adblocker. Is there any workaround for this?
uBlock Origin should prevent this, other ad-blockers might not have these bypass mechanisms.
I’m actually genuinely surprised that more people don’t know about uBlock Origin.
It’s all we talk about here lol
And most people aren’t here.
But OP is, and still asking…
That’s fair.
True.
want to also add that people using ublock origin would probably benefit from enabling more than just the default filters.
if you go into your extension prefs for UB, there’s a lot of other stuff in there. I usually select everything except the other languages. I occasionally come across a site that has a ‘we see youre using an adblocker’ type message but its not very often. and even then, most of the ones that I have seen let me dismiss the message and still view the content.
i don’t use any social media except lemmy/reddit and the like tho, so no clue how it works on facebook and other trash like that.
What adblocker? I’m using Ublock Origin and have no issues.
Using Wipr on iOS, which has no special abilities other than blocking ads using EasyList and don’t have any issues.
Also, I don’t see why thetvdb would be so aggressive given their content is crowdsourced.
Sorry everyone, you’re right. Ublock origin does bypass this. I realised I was looking something up on my wife’s PC last night who doesn’t have it installed but my PC does and I have access, thanks all.
Let’s hope you put Ublock on your wife’s PC after that.
Using noscript I approved the sites js, the cdn and jsdeliver. I am also running ublock and am getting no nags. This is on ff mobile for Android.
Is there a Ublock update?
