Blue Team: C: Anthony Davis F: Dirk Nowitzki F: LeBron James G: Kobe Bryant G: Chris Paul

Red Team: C: Tim Duncan F: Kevin Garnett F: Paul George G: Michael Jordan G: Damian Lillard

I constructed each team by building from one GOAT candidate (Jordan and LeBron) then choosing two legendary 00s players who would complement their peak package (Bryant/Nowitzki on LeBron and Duncan/Garnett on Jordan). After that I round out the chemistry by choosing two players from pool of 2010s stars that somewhat underachieved compared to their talent or to what have been expected from them (Davis/Paul and Lillard/George).

So which team do you think wins in a single elimination? Best of seven? And more importantly, WHY and HOW would they win or lose to the other team? I would like to know some of the dynamics you’ll be able to come up with these teams. Thanks!

EDIT: Each player are on their peak.

I think Embiid instead of AD makes the blue team much better and Embiid also fits the idea of “underachieving 2010s star”. Right now I’m picking red though, it’s built so much better

EDIT: I also feel like both teams would be better off if you swapped Dame and CP3 around?

Red team counters the blue team defensively too well.

Michael is the perfect counter to Kobe, and will undoubtedly win the matchup,

Prime Paul George is one of the best players you could pick to guard lebron, same for Garnett with Dirk.

Prime Tim duncan (00-03) was an absolute monster, one of the best peaks in nba history, he’d dismantle AD. Especially when historically AD often fails to perform against elite big men

Dame is the obvious weak link, but with Cp3 not being a volume perimeter creator and red team having one of the best anchors ever and two of the most switchable defenders ever (KG and PG) Dame could be hidden pretty easily. It would be much harder to hide Dirk, especially if Mj and Dame hunt him on offense.

As for offensively, you have the best scorer ever, along with one of the best shooters ever in your backcourt, both of them also being elite playmakers.

An mvp candidate 6’9 smooth handle 3 level scorer at small forward, who has consistently shot over 40% on catch and shoot 3’s in his career, also an underrated passer.

The most high intensity big man there is, with a silky long mid range game, adapts perfectly to pace and space or methodical half court offenses. Very underrated passer

Tim Duncan, best fundamentals in the game, extremely unselfish, all time rebounder, would fit perfectly in an offense with 2 volume scorers in mj and dame

In a 7 game series red team takes it convincingly

Since no one else is diving in, and you made an earnest attempt at discussion…

Single elim is tough since even bad teams can beat great ones any given night. Best-of-7, I’m taking Blue. The main reason for this is that Blue can better utilize modern offensive philosophies, which imo are objectively more effective and efficient than ever.

They won’t have to rely on iso, but will always have the option. They can fall back on arguably the greatest PnR handler of all time attacking the opponent’s weakest defender, and arguably the greatest PnR finisher of all time to score on the play, with 3 decent-to-great spacers in Kobe/Bron/Nowtizki.

They also strike me as the superior transition team, with the greatest transition player of all time on their side in Lebron. They have two all-time playmakers, whereas Red doesn’t have any, so their offense should be more deliberate and less wasteful.

I see one defensive weakness on each team, Dirk and Dame, but I think Dame’s gonna be more exploitable. He has nowhere to hide, with no chance whatsoever at guarding prime CP3 or anyone he switches onto. Weak POA defense here could be disastrous when the other team can space well and is extremely smart (countering Red’s rim protection advantage).

Dirk will be guarding KG, and won’t be able to protect the rim as well as the TD/KG combo, but can cheat a little bit due to the lack of frontcourt spacing from Red. He will give up long KG twos all day, knowing they’ll get those points back.
