Disney movie defeats Disney movie for top spot, while Disney movie underperforms.
With all the mergers recently, almost every theatrical movie is going to be a Disney movie soon.
Independent and smaller scale cinema isn’t going anywhere. It’s not going to make headlines though. Disney sucks all the oxygen in the press room.
So a throw away movie that everyone expected to flop, flopped.
Just so execs can say “see?? You only want live actions, reboots and sequels!” without putting any effort at all in alternatives.
I hadn’t even heard of Ella McCay until seeing this very post, so maybe the problem is that no one knows it exists.
Same thing happened with Strange World; I hadn’t heard of it until after news came out about how bad it bombed.
