In this study, molecular jackhammers are used to eradicate cancer cells by vibronic-driven action. Cancer cells were destroyed by stimulating aminocyanine molecules with near-infrared light causing them to vibrate in sync, enough to break apart the membranes of cancer cells. 50% tumour-free efficacy in mouse models for melanoma was achieved.
