In the television categories, notable winners included Adult Swim’s Common Side Effects, which won in the best TV/media mature category; Hulu’s The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball
Common Side Effects is a brilliant story that touches on the horrific issues with the US healthcare industry while also showing a nuanced understanding of how letting people try to heal themselves without proper study of new drugs can be as dangerous as having pharmaceutical companies control it all.
The Gumball revival probably isn’t quite as good as the original but still brings a lot to the table. The end of the first episode of the first revival season ended with the heavy implication that if the wealthy won’t provide common people with healthy food to eat that you should eat the wealthy instead which honestly shocked me that this joke got beyond censors.
