Said this before, but US protectionism is going to yield two classes of car: the US and everywhere else. We will end up getting lower quality, expensive versions, while BYD and other Chinese companies will become globally dominant. European and American companies will get away with building low quality ICE cars for the US since they know they won’t have to compete.
Arghg they are just starting to get good to. The ARIYA and leaf are decent vehicles.
They’re still available at great prices too. Used Ariyas are a steal.
Electric vehicle sales in the United States fell 37 percent in February. The market share of EVs dropped below the 5 percent mark south of the border. The elimination of the $7,500 federal tax credit last fall, combined with the Trump administration’s stance, which does little (or nothing) to encourage electrification efforts, has clearly dampened buyer enthusiasm.
Visibly corrupt policitians suddenly pulled the rug under the country’s efforts to electrify. No wonder electrification is suffering.
Best we can wish for is companies divest from the USA, and pivot to regions where there are better EV insentives, rather than pivot back to fossil fuels.
Dang it… that means Canadians are also fricked…
Not if we decide to trade with other nations, or the auto sector opens up the market to other countries.
