I’m kind of stoked. @anon6789@lemmy.world and I have (at least temporarily) managed to revive what was a near-dead community, i.e. !animals@lemmy.world. The place had gotten about 5posts in the past year, but since we started contributing about a week and a half ago, it’s received 18 new posts from 5 different users, with every single post receiving quite a healthy number of likes.
You don’t see that too often.
The good news is that ‘anon’ works as a wildlife rescuer, so naturally enjoys sharing content and discussing animal facts. Myself, I’ve been a zoology hobbyist of sorts for decades, with a lot to discuss, and thousands of fun pics I’ve stashed over the years. My 3rd job ever was actually working at a major zoo (greenhouse dept). Anon’s the more frequent contributor, but I find myself posting pretty easily. We’ll see how it goes…
It’s been fun for me, as I naturally encounter so many great non-owls stories, but I feel many of them don’t fit the vibe of the other animal communities, so it’s been nice to have a place to share that stuff. Plus I do enjoy nearly every animal, so as much as I love the owls, it’s nice to talk about some other things now and again.
I have to find something to share today yet, working the clinic’s event all weekend pretty much had me go to bed when I got home, so I haven’t had time to look for any new topics, but I think I want to do pirhannas. I watched a neat video on them last night.
I like seeing the community get more active and not be a one-person show, and I hope the enthusiasm continues!
Slowly building !fedilytics@piefed.zip
Got a few posts that will be weekly. Not sure how big it can expand as the posts already cover community (cross post), instance, and software levels. Who knows, maybe something else will come up that can be analyzed.
