The national lottery in the UK does a lot of funding for charity and other good causes. I know the chances of me winning are essentially zero, but I’m not playing with the expectation of winning.
You might not be playing to win, but other people are out of desperation. Instead of charity, why not allocate taxes to solve the root cause creating the need for charity?

If any of those causes would otherwise be funded by the government, it’s a scam.
