I have multiple IMAP email accounts which each have their own folder structure, but I use a single Local Folders archive folder for all archiving (I don’t use the archive folders in each individual account). So, my archive looks like this:

  • Local Folders
    • Archives
      • 2023
      • 2024
      • 2025
      • 2026

And every archived email I’ve received from every person is lumped into one of those folders, sorted only by the year. But I’d find it much more useful to have something like this:

  • Local Folders
    • Archives
      • dirtbag(at)hotmail(dot)com
        • 2025
        • 2026
      • orders(at)bigfatfuckclothing(dot)fat
        • 1999
        • 2000
      • order-confirmation(at)amazon(dot)humanmisery
        • 2024
        • 2025
        • 2026

I know I could set up filters and have this done in a non-archive manner, but I’d love to just be able to click the Archive button and have it sorted into a subfolder like above.

Possible? Or is there a less stupid way to do this that I just overlooked? That’s usually what happens with me.

That would be a really useful feature but afaik it doesn’t exist. my archive looks exactly like yours, except I just finished moving mine from local folders to a local self-hosted imap server (to make my offline archive accessible to all my devices). maybe you should submit a feature request to mozilla. auto-folderized by sender would sure be handy.
