Five years after virtually every world leader agreed to “phase down” the burning of coal for climate reasons, the fuel is more widely used than ever.
There’s a massive incentive to move to renewables that’s not just about the climate and yet we still insist on making the worst choices possible.
Imagine there’s audio graphic evidence that you did very crazy shit with young girls repeatedly, after years of running against made up pizza gate and all that.
The guy is in a tough spot, the Russians could release it if he makes a wrong move on the war Ukraine, which he will stop on day one, the Israeli could release it if he dare sign another ceasefire agreement, an Obama mole inside his own DOJ could leak it if he’s not careful.
My point being: the only we in this is that some large minority helped Elon Musk’s election fraud to install this one guy. There is very little we in this. The moment he dies will be like a cork is removed from a massive force for good.
Question is - What’s the data from? I. April Carbon Brief did an analysis of coal use and concluded that the pledges don’t actually mean coal is booming.

I thought a bit part of the difference was made up by renewables. Guess for once I was too optimistic…
Replacing LNG with coal is basically not much of a difference in terms of emissions. Although burning gas is cleaner then coal, methane leaks and the energy it takes to liquefy the gas make total emissions pretty similar.
It also does not mean that nothing has been replaced by renewables. There are also some other factors, like higher EV sales, which need electricity to charge. That is long term a good thing, as even with pure coal electricity BEVs are better then ICE cars. When you then add renewables it becomes much better.
Our entire society is built on fossil fuels. We are not even close to transitioning out of fossil fuels unfortunately. This Iran war is a lot more dangerous than people think it is. The loss of fossil fuels getting to the market will result in the loss of economic output the global market (macroeconomics afterall).
So we have bought ourselves some time with strategic reserves. The collapse (or at best a contraction of 20%) of the global economy is still possible though. We are heading towards the cliff slowly, but we are still heading there.
