I know that I have liked everything Waititi that I’ve watched, so I’ll give it a chance on Jellyfin, probably. I loved The Remains Of The Day, in complete defiance of its non-SF nature. Have not read any of the writer’s books but I have one of them on my phone right now, on the recommendation of some random blogger’s post. Not this one.

But boy have I heard some vicious opinions about it.

It’s based on a science fiction novel, but it’s not far out science fantasy.

The setting is a some years into the future, more or less indistinguishable from today, except for sentient robots.

The novel by Kazuo Ishiguro (Remains Of The Day, Never Let Me Go) is quite good.

Thanks for the info, good to know and not surprising the book is better. The trailer looked like it was promoting a 2 hour AI commercial

Yeah, I gotta say the timing of this release with today’s zeitgeist isn’t great.

Maybe the producers thought everyone would be agog with AI years ago when they greenlit the production.

            Honestly, that sounds very likely

Glad you liked the book. I found it severely lacking in world building. Surprised they went for a movie adaptation.

          I enjoyed the non-human-ness of Klara’s POV.

Like I said earlier, the world in the novel is pretty much our own a few years into the future.

          There isn’t much to build.
