  • In my case I like being a healer because it’s the one role nearly everyone else tends to be dogshit with and constantly wiping doesn’t scream “fun” to me. I was the main healer and raid leader for my guild when I played WoW (holy priest, never respecced), and I genuinely enjoyed the constant stream of things to pay attention to. As long as my running mates were doing their jobs adequately, my job was very active-zen. We rarely wiped, and even PUGs went smoothly most of the time because a good healer can make up for a lot of shit from a bad tank or aggro-pulling dps.

I had a couple mods, nothing that automated heals or anything, just UI tweaks to clean up clutter and then add more, but different, clutter, like an extra 3 rows of hotbinds and combo macros so literally everything was easily accessible. Cuz if you think I used keybinds to cast anything, you’d be wrong. Clicky clicky!

Kinda miss playing, tbh, but I stopped liking the sort of people who play it…

  • Local dude here stopped running for office due to death threats against them and their family… small, semi-rural, conservative town, the most important decision for which is… idk, tbh. Can’t honestly imagine why anyone would threaten someone here.

Which makes me want to run for that position instead. Fuck you people, I don’t have a family to worry about, and I’m not all that worried about dying myself. Solid chance I won’t even know about them since I don’t use social media, and barely check my mail… they’d have to actually act on the threats for it to rise to a level I’d notice, and boy oh boy would I love that. Talk about publicity for the campaign for doing nothing!

  • No such thing exists to my knowledge no, but it could have back when the apple mouse was first introduced.

I have used a lot of wireless chargers (old phone usb port failed) and… the coil of the charger is typically the least of the problem, the charging coil on the device not matching up with it is usually the bigger issue.

But mice need basically no charge daily, and a mouse largely confined to a set area would, if well designed, always be on the useable charger space, so any mousepad with a trickle charge worth of capability would be plenty.

  • And this is exactly why I just have cheap mice with separate rechargeable batteries. Also just have enough battery-powered junk to justify it.

Nothing is close enough to the tower for wired, at about 15 foot away, and I’ll never remember to charge something if I cant just plug it in to a separate power source and charge while using.

Smart money would have been on a wirelessly charged mouse and a wireless charging mousepad. But nobody uses mousepads anymore, either, now that underside rollerball tracking isn’t an issue, so you can’t introduce something like that now.

  • Biology in general is disgusting. Eating is gross, its just a weird process if you think about it, and especially weird that so much of our lives are dedicated to it. Waste removal is extra gross. Reproduction is… not even gunna go there but it’s gross, and childbirth is so much worse. Mouths are gross, our protruding luxury bones are gross, tongues are just tiny tentacles, and thats gross. Also theres just -so much hair- which is, you guessed it, gross.

Guts are gross. I know we aren’t meant to survive disemboweling, but we do it routinely now to deliver babies, and do they put your intestines back where they belong? Hell no! They just shove that shit back in there and let it sort itself out.

And then we move away from humans and other animals lick themselves to get clean which is gross. They eat poop, sometimes directly from a rectum (theirs or not), which is gross.

Diseases are gross, auto-immune issues are gross…

    Man.

I find it best to just not really spend a lot of time thinking about the practicalities of biology. I mean, I have done the thinking, and imho, its not really worth it. It just makes everything seem gross, genuinely. Like really, stop to think about just hair growth, a relatively benign fact of biology. Some small thing starts growing under your skin at a bud point, then erupts through your protective skin layer, and just keeps growing… until its multiple feet long, in some cases (thank fuck leg, armpit, and genital hair stops growing at inches instead of feet). Just gross.

  • IoT is internet of things, a semi-derisive term (in my experience, mostly used by tech people) for internet-connected devices that really don’t need to be connected to the internet at all, like toothbrushes, knives, washers, etc.

I think its referring to the fact that you, the user, do not access the internet through it, it accesses the internet semi-autonomously to do whatever it does, like a bot. Thus an internet made of things, not people.

  • I’ve seen a LOT of dystopian sci-fi with ai robots and not a lot of utopian sci-fi (even a struggling utopia) sort of at all, so yeah, hard agree on the single-purpose non-ai non-IoT robots. We already have so many of them, they just aren’t able to load themselves yet, though many can turn themselves on when programmed.

Also just massively easier to make, fewer things to go wrong. Locomotion, for one. If it never really has to move, or never off track, that massively simplifies the design and maintenance. Now it just needs proximity sensors instead of whole-area mapping technology.
