Sometimes people are charged with a crime and then found innocent. Should we keep defendants names secret until they are found guilty and all appeals are exhausted?

Was he ever arrested? I’m talking about the police holding somebody against their will without saying who it is.

Why not? Shouldn’t we get to know the names of people arrested by the police? Should they be allowed to withhold that information from the public? Seems kind of police-state-y.
