You’d have to be extremely deluded to think society today or in the future is holding back the proper treatment of, and research of illnessnesses in, people of color and women.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's your opinions on film critics and film snobs??
2·9 days agoSnobs have refined palates and, more importantly, seem to enjoy touting their superior taste. Most people aren’t snobs. I wouldn’t worry about it.

It’s largely bullshit. It has no relation to the post. And it’s clear that the commenter has a unrealistic view of the world.
I guess you’d have to have the knowledge of the use of canaries in old mining operations.
I take pride in my English, so I mean it when I say thank you.
That said, seems we’re both wrong. I was wrong to correct you. You’re wrong in that “prophesize” is in fact a real word. “Prophesy” and “prophesize” mean the exact same thing. The former is the older classic spelling. The latter, while newer, seems to date back as far as the 19th century.
Not true. It could be downvoted more. Needs more downvotes.
P. S. prophesizing*

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's your opinions on film critics and film snobs??
91·9 days agoSnobs can go fuck themselves for all I care. Critics have their place, but it isn’t to provide an aggregate score of how good or bad something is. Entertainment is extremely subjective, to the point that poorly made products can be highly valued, and “vice versa”. Don’t listen to the popular consensus. What you should be doing is finding critics that A) aren’t flip-floppy or morally bankrupt, and B) align with your own subjective opinions as much as possible.
Once you do this, you’ll be able to find true value in critics. Even so, never let someone else stop you from forming your own educated opinion.

I’m not invested in anything right now, but I did rewatch The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for the first time in a long time. Sergio Leone still holds up even after 50 years.
