  • Well, it’s the lie silicon valley has sold. A lie that is falling apart (hence the right wing shift of the tech oligarchs). The lie was “Making the world a better place” we could use technology to “fix” the contradictions of capitalism. It did this primarily through liberal aesthetic based improvements. Which a lot of every day people confused with actual progressive material improvements.

You’ll still see it today with people defending Bill Gates as he continues to maintain the aesthetics. Still seen as a “progressive billionaire” as inherently contradictory that term is.

  • That and the absolute failure of “Denazification” in favor of “fighting communism” following WW2. The western powers aligned with former Nazis instead of purging them from any political position.

We’ve had a generation of Nazi sympathizer in power building to this moment. And while the actual brown shirts may be dead their children are very much trying to take up where their parents failed. Musk being an obvious example.

  • If you have followed Elon Musk beyond just his public “tech guy” persona it’s not as much of a 180 as you’d think. At least in terms of Musk. The public perception of him has done a swap but I’d still say it’s inaccurate. The fact that we have a “party swap” on a billionaire like this is mostly testament to how both parties work for capitalist billionaire interests in their own way.

Musk has always been a narcissist. His political goals have always been aligned with his capital and seizing of power. If he could get to the same place he was today by being an oil Barron he would have done so. It should be a wake up call for people that associate their political beliefs with red or blue to realize how flexible these parties are in serving the interest of billionaires. And not necessarily a “shift” in Musk. Musk has always been this way.

  • Thank you. For some reason our entire society thinks “safety” only applies to the people inside of the vehicle.

It’s a testament to our very individualized society under capitalism. It’s basing all values on a individuals consumption choices. Rather than the safety and security of society as a whole.

Sadly, carrying around a brick above your head is still the only “consumer” choice pedestrians have for safety.

  • I’m not a part of that chapter but I sent my initial request email and it took about 4-5 months to be contacted. Most chapters have been overwhelmed since the election.

If your chapter is active you’re basically waiting for an email and they’ll get you invited to the discord for new members. At least that’s how my chapter did it. Small yearly membership fee.

I didn’t join as a national member. Just a “local comrade”. So just a member of my local chapter. No idea how national membership works.

  • It’s most peoples understanding that being a member of any organization that has “socialist” in the name can make you a target for fascist. But I think it’s also most peoples perspective that EVERYONE is a target for fascist eventually. There is no defense in just sitting by and hoping that you’re the last to be targeted.

As a straight white male it’s definitely a privileged position to not have to be as concerned yet.

The SRA itself is not at all political though and members are discouraged from doing any organizing that could be connected directly to the organization. It’s basically meant to be a safe space for people to learn responsible gun ownership. Something that is usually dominated by the “maga hats”.

Join the SRA! (Socialist Rifle Association). We are the wrong people! We either arm the vanguard (not actually a goal) or we get more common sense gun laws implemented. It’s a win win.

In more serious terms, think of it as an organization where you can learn responsible gun ownership without being surrounded by maga hats. You don’t need to consider yourself a socialist to join. Though there is a basic vetting process to keep the maga hats out.

  • I would say politicians are using the rise in anti American sentiment to solidify their positions in more nationalist forms of government. I would warn my comrades in the west. This rise in nationalism can be dangerous. Even if it is directed at being against America (which is good) it can also be leveraged to build fascist policies in your own country. Be wary of your “liberal” politicians and parties. They likely do not have your best interest at heart. They know material conditions will decline with the fall of the American empire. They will do everything they can to keep their power. And they’ll do it off the backs of your working class.

Do not substitute class solidarity for Nationalism. Tarrifs are a direct attack on the working class of the world. We pay those. No matter what country we reside in.

People give JS a lot of shit. And I do too. But it’s meant to continue running and not fail like C code would. It’s meant to basically go “yeah, sure I’ll fuck with that” and keep trucking.

So you can always make it do stupid shit when you use it a stupid way.

Is this bad? Maybe. Was it the intention of the language? Absolutely.

Typescript fixes a lot of these headaches. But I feel like JS is doing exactly what it was meant to do. Keep trucking even when the programmer asks it to do stupid shit.

If you’re using JS and don’t understand this then it’s your fault and not the languages fault.

Do we all want to live in a world of typedefs as strict as C and have our webpages crash with the slightest unexpected char input? Probably not.

We don’t notice all the time JS goes “yeah I can fuck with that” and it works perfectly. We only notice the times it does that and it results in something silly.

TLDR: JS does what it was made to do. And because of that it looks absolutely ridiculous sometimes.

  • Found a doctor that was just like “oh yeah. You definitely have ADHD. Let’s get you some meds”

After like 10 years of referrals that I either never went to follow up on or got pushed away from I finally got medicaded.

It literally took luck because I was always just so demotivated by the whole process. They literally make it the most difficult for people with ADHD to actually get to the point of talking to someone. While people that just want Adderall can easily navigate it with their executive function fully functioning.

    It’s rough. Good luck mate.
