I used to do data reporting and list generating that sometimes involved working with advancements marketing. The email marketing system set a static list before it was actually sent. So you could have a draft ready 3 days ahead of time and each unsubscribe wouldn’t impact the static list they already set up. They eventually upgraded to a better system, but I could see situations where 3-5 business days is actually necessary, simply due to poorly planned technology.

Sure and work right past them by electing progressives and DSA members.

But for non voters i fear we can shame them, worship them, do everything they want and it still wont matter. They don’t vote because it makes them feel superior. Its not about politics, its about needing to feel justified in their belief that they are better. It’s just ego. Others are just myopic and act helpless. Until they start getting marched into camps, then they might start to see why voting always matters.

I’ve watched it over and over, a candidate will agree with someone on 99% of issues, finally a candidate these voters can get behind. Most of those non voters still stay home. They’ll find one issue they disagree with, or they’ll say it doesn’t matter anyway, that every candidate is controlled opposition. I’ve worked in politics, I’ve seen the data, I’ve courted those voters. Until non voters actually show up, mocking them is probably just as good a use of time as any (I’m maybe being flippant here).

Inaction is nearly as big an evil in society as bad action.

You’re whole argument is a series of straw mans and doesn’t actually address what I said. You can literally go in and vote for no one or only one down ballot candidate you believe in and that would be far more productive than not voting. I could be the most left wing candidate that ever lived and courting non voters would still be a waste in most elections. How are you going to convince me that courting someone that has voted in last 4 elections is less important than courting someone who skipped the last 4? If you don’t vote, you’ve announced to the world you don’t care and the world responded as expected.

And exit polling doesn’t exist for non voters if they don’t vote… Who are these mythical people who never vote but we have mountains of data on. The primary way parties get data is through voter rolls and party affiliation that they cross reference with purchased metadata. If your not voting they have a choice between targeting reliable voters they know support them and complete mysteries that never vote, be real here.

Not voting only tells candidates that you’re not a reliable voter, so they can ignore you. They don’t see your non-vote as a protest vote, because failing to vote means you don’t exist to them. If you want to exist to politicians you have to vote. Also, there are nearly always down ballot candidates that are progressive that get ignored because morons act like the top of the ticket is the only reason to leave their moms basement.

Think of it from the perspective of a candidate, they have endless data showing them that no matter how hard they try they won’t meet your moral purity test, so they court reliable voters with their messaging and resources.

I’ve never understood that argument. He used some words that evoked the feeling of progressivism. But at no point did he actually say he was progressive or present a progressive vision. He was always slightly left of center, and very clearly ran as that, while having a campaign that appealed broadly. I honestly think people took “hope”, " change" and first black president and just assumed it.

I challenge you to find even one piece of Obama campaign lit that actually presented him as a progressive.

Honestly not enough context here to answer. Are they a former close friend, distant aquintence, former love interest? Do you have a pattern of long period of time with no catch up? A lot of thing in relationships are contextual based on set expectations.

I’d argue at the state level they often have, it just gets lost in the noise. At least in Wisconsin and Minnesota, where I’ve been.

Solar is easily the cheapest energy and its getting cheaper every year. Repairing a coal power plant is not as attractive as a much cheaper to run biofuel plant. Etc.

Here in germany we have investors abandoning half build solar parks cause they aren’t profitable anymore.

Without knowing the specifics, I doubt profitability was the issue. Once a solar panel is installed it is pure profit with minimal maintenance. Companies get in trouble when they commit way more to a project than they can raise in investments. It seems more likely that is what happened.

Lastly your looking at a few countries that are pushing back with what amounts to theater (Germany is 56% renewable energy). Meanwhile the largest producer of energy in the world, China, is staying committed to converting to renewables and s also 56% of the way there. But even in countries pushing back the growth trend is clear, we are past early adoption and squarely in the common adoption phase of electrifying our technology out of fossil fuels.

Sure but the problem would be 100 times worse if fossil fuel adoption doest decline. Its good news that we seem to be on the way to shifting our behavior.

I’m concerned about climate change. But if you ask most people how much progress we’ve made they would say “barely any”. That belief that we can’t do it, is the main thing aside from public policy slowing us down. When people think things are hopeless, they often don’t see the point in fighting or changing their behavior. I also think most people don’t realize that renewable energy adoption has accelerated so quickly the last few years. Every year we have had massive growth over last year in adoption.

iirc ~1/4 of the worlds energy production is renewable. More than 90% of all new electricity capacity worldwide came from renewable sources in 2024. Doomers want you to believe it can’t happen again while we are in the very decade that is likely to change the world. Public policy doesn’t even matter at this point, renewable energy is cheaper, so nearly all new investments are in renewables.

I seriously doubt anyone keeps records of dog deaths like they do humans. But bear hunters use dogs to hunt them because they scare and corner them, by running them up a tree. American black bears are afraid of everything.

In the last 126 years there was only 61 possible legitimate cases of an american black bear killing a human, and even some of those cases have been called into question. American black bears are some of the most passive animals, they hate confrontation and will basically always flee. Even if hungry and even if their babies are in danger. The scariest thing they will do is bluff charge while vocalizing and the run off.

In the past 3 years my father has been billed millions of dollars in healthcare. If he had a health savings instead of insurance, he would simply be dead now. The better option is public single payer healthcare. Insurance sucks, but health savings is simply worse. Pooled risk spreads out costs. If the government pools the risk then they eliminate the needs for constant financial profit growth at the expense of the insured.
