  • I’ve owned Timex watches that ticked insanely loudly. My automatics are off course decently audible when put up against the ear (most of which have been Seiko 4R movements), and so is the Swiss Precidrive/HAQ (High Accuracy Quartz) movement in my Certina. The by far most quiet watches I’ve owned though, are Citizen Eco-Drives. More or less completely in-audible, even when held up against the ear. This is probably to save energy, and the movement is running more efficiently and more refined. I have an impression Citizen just knows what they’re doing with quartz. I’ve also found them to be more reliable than Swiss quartz, as I have just had that Precidrive movement start running way out of spec, failing me for the 2nd time already in 4 years now. While my Eco-Drives have been rock solid even with harsh use.

  • I like the case and the dial, and I trust the movement. But I’ve not the biggest fan of the minute/seconds markers, as well as the bracelet. But all in all it seems pretty great for the price. Personally I would have looked for something with sapphire and solid end-links, but I’m not sure how many entry-level quartz pieces exists with this, or how much one would have to go up in price. But all in all, I would say it’s a great value piece and a safe choice as long as one is fine with hollow end links (or will wear it on a strap).

  • Well. This could be a long story, explaining that I kinda have my non-graily grail already. Or that the closest thing to a grail that I might actually pay up for at some point, for me is the Tudor Pelagos 39mm (as I feel that’s how far I personally could go without babying the watch, or feeling stupid spending too much money on it.) Or that some other watches may become the grail.

However, the short story is that what basically is my grail, is the GS SBGV229 (or one of the other colour variants). And it’s out of production… For a while now afaik. And, as I personally also want my grail watch to be bought new if I am to get any such piece, combined with me not being in the position to buy that kind of watch in the coming year or two: It’s pretty much not going to happen.

Unless GS releases a new version of that watch that is. Sadly, the steel version which is much more permanent in the GS lineup, while very similar, is still not a grail for me in the same way. I simply think I won’t be very fond of the weight of it on the bracelet, and I’m slightly worried it might be ever so slightly too dressy too. The titanium version is just about far enough over on the slightly sportier/casual side of things, due to the different design of its bracelet combined with the ever so slightly more subdued nature of the metal itself.

  • I see some classics here. G-Shocks on point. The Duri is a humble little legend, and so is that little Citizem field watch on its left. The Seiko 5 is legit. And the Buliova is its own thing. A moonwatch nonetheless. I guess the Hamilton is the #1 piece? The rest are quite non descript to me. I would have gotten an MVP instead of them, but idk they might be something to you

  • It’s a cool novelty item. It’s like a weird kind of design homage done by the brand itself. If one is looking for “a watch” though, there’s obviously better options. But that’s really not what this thing is about

Just to state an example though. In my country, the Moonswatch goes for well over retail, about as much as a Seiko Speedtimer Panda, and twice as much as a Citizen Chronograph with a very well-made case and bracelet (for its price), out of super-hardened Titanium, and with a rock-solid Eco-Drive movement. But then again: They’re really just two completely different kinds of things, and it doesn’t quite make sense to compare them as competitors.

  • I think I asked about a COSC level movement specifically, because I know these to be adjusted for several positions. So I was thinking that these were also the movements for which it might be technically possible to intentionally have one position gain time, and another loose time. While as for cheaper movements, it would be pure luck of the draw, as one can’t adjust them per position at all? I was just curious.
