  • I’ve thought for a while that road patrol was the laziest form of policing. This is compounded with the supreme court codifying that cops don’t have to know the laws they are enforcing and thereby allowed to make up probable cause. Combine that with the “us vs. them” mentality that is both heavily promoted in training, and is the character trait drawn to police work, and it’s like a perfect storm of shitty outcomes.

I like the idea of getting rid of traffic cops and actually doing real police work. They’d have to hire smart people though.

  • One thing to be aware of with Ryan Hall is the /EXTREME/ hype and WORLD SHATTERING YouTube algorithm hyperbole bs that is fed into the regular postings of the long term forecast videos. The NWS & NSSFC say any forecast past 48 hours is only a general trend for a general area and has a remarkable amount of uncertainty which increases the further in the future the forecast goes.

I appreciate the live reporting and doing good works for disaster survivors. But the hyperbole - well, it just isn’t for me I guess. I wish Pecos Hank was still making weather videos regularly. If you want to see stunning weather videography with wit, wisdom, and a pretty good soundtrack, hit up his channel. Admittedly that channel is not so good for live updates, but frankly, NWS alerts are the best source for that as well. And if you’re in the hazard area, you should look up your local Emergency Management Department (usually county or city level). They often have a mass notification system you can sign up for to receive emergency alerts which are immediately fed from NWS.

One last plug - NOAA Weather Radio. If you live in tornado country, get one. Or flash flood country. Or downstream from a dam. Or in a tsunami hazard area… Really, just get one - they’re cheap lifesavers.
