I think Adam Sandler was offered that role.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Cycling without a helmet and high-visibility jacket may be made criminal offences in IrelandEnglish
1·15 days agoNL has the infrastructure and civic sense to respect cyclists.
The two roads near me are 60 and 80 km/h with no cycling lanes. People are absolute cunts to me on the road near my house. I basically own a van to drive my bike to the bike path.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Cycling without a helmet and high-visibility jacket may be made criminal offences in IrelandEnglish
1·14 days agoIt’s much easier to make rules for private warehouses. We do need to redesign transit infrastructure to accommodate cyclists safely. But it’s a massive undertaking and there’s a heap of cunts out there who don’t give a fuck about cyclists and want to spend the money adding lanes to freeways or other dumb shit to make cars lives easier (sell more fuel)…

34·17 days agoIt’s a safety precaution, like bike lights and seat belts. It’s better that people take precautions. I’ve worn a hard hat on job sites for years because it’s Union mandated for safety.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•The Protein-Obsessed Fast Food Industry's Latest Innovation: Big-Ass Cups of Plain MeatEnglish
2·17 days agoAs well as big farma selling protein. I feel all this is the modern equivalent of the food pyramid from the 80s… Which was largely designed by grain producers. I straight up mistrust American science given its links to capitalism. Yes we need some protein but not the massive amount we’re being told to consume. Plus it’s the worst macronutrient for the environment and ethical consumption.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there "big accounts" on the threadiverse?
12·22 days agoFWIW I tend to block power users on whatever site I’m on. It feels like going to a party and having three people come and stand between you and the party. I also block a ton of meme and nonsense groups, that’s not why I come to lemmy.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How far do you wear your daily shoes out before bothering to replace them?
4·20 days agoWork boots - Redback - until they split at the bridge and water gets in - ~4 years.
Runners - Asics Trail Running shoes - until the foam in the sole has worn down. 1500km (8km/day dog walking).
Crocks - Until they’re fucked. Had them two years now.
Birkenstocks - Until they’re fucked. Had them six years now. Self replacing the sole was a waste of time for me. I’ll but another pair sometime but I only wear them a few months of the year.
RM Williams dress boots - Had them twenty years but rarely wear them. I got them in thrift. They’re my suit shoes.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK the four rules of firearm safety
19·22 days agoAnother rule - If you’re actually firing a gun and never have, only load one bullet. I’ve seen plenty of videos where someone fires a second accidental shot because they weren’t ready for the recoil. More of an issue with bigger caliber guns but firearm negligence can be fatal so don’t fuck about.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could add one book to the required reading curriculum for people under 18, what would it be?
3·1 month agoI was required to read both of those books for school. I’d say they’re already required reading, or at least were.
The movie is great too. It’s on Amazon.

3·2 months agoOh my god I just finished that. I’m not a big reader and it was such a fucking drag from the second half of the book. Good action in the fist few chapters and I liked the old timey sci fi lingo but a total wankfest as you say.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit's Ban Evasion Detection Is Fucking Orwellian
16·3 months agoI had all that happen. The initial ban was from AI for inciting violence when discussing JiuJitsu technique.

I hold the government responsible for cycling fatalities. They’re the ones who provide the shit infrastructure. You can sing you “hold drivers responsible” tune all you want but it’s still the government that is the one expected to hold them responsible… which they aren’t. You’re gonna be correct and dead with that attitude. Meanwhile I’ll happily wear a high viz vest, bike lights and a helmet because that’ll help me be safer and come home to my family.
