This may be a dumb way to do it but I print to PDF. It doesn’t require any new software and works just fine for documents

I did a commute like this for 3 years. It’s very doable (and enjoyable!). A few things I did not anticipate when planning the trip.

In the summer you need to leave time to cool down/shower.

Head wind can significantly affect commute times.

You need to draw a line where you know it will not be safe to bike I e. Snow, heavy rain, heavy wind. This way you can plan for a back up.

Flat tires/bike malfunctions happen. Make sure you know how to repair things and that your job would be understanding. You would be surprised how the same employer might be understanding for a flat tire on a car but not on a bike.

This is my experience in The US at least. You should do it!

Check the compatibility with Linux but I also used Ubuntu with very little problem. It works flawlessly for me. I had no experience with Linux before this and was able to set it up with some googling and Asking ChatGPT for some useful commands. It was a fun project. The *arr suite is great.

No. I didn’t see this. I’ll take a look.

I didn’t install right away. Actually, my fist attempt to install Ubuntu failed because of the same issue. I had to retry with the graphics safe install and then it worked. When rebooting, I got to the prompt that said , “remove installation hardware and press enter to continue” I did this and the screen went blank.

I restarted with the “nomodeset” edit to the boot script and set up ssh access. That’s when I tried to update the drivers. After the update there was still no video output. I suspect it’s not a driver issue but I am new to Linux and do not know how to proceed with troubleshooting.

I hadn’t considered adding serial Pi’s. That is an interesting idea. I am not sure how I would go about doing that but Ill do some research. Any good resources you would recommend?

I currently don’t require much transcoding but I imagine I will as time goes on. I would rather not have to police the filetypes for downloads as heavily. That being said, It will be an always on server so power is a consideration. I haven’t thought about how expensive it would be to run a tower server vs raspberry Pi.

Thanks for the advice. I actually got it running last night.

It starts just fine. When I try to add a series to it, it shoot up an error that it cannot create the required directory. Even if I sudo the directory in manually it cannot write the files. I assume that it doesn’t have write privileges but I lack the skills to find the appropriate service and change it’s privileges.

This is good advice. I did try to follow the “official” install for this one. When I Google “how to install” all the instructions are different and like 5 years old so they are outdated.

I downloaded this from the graphical package manager

Last night I installed Sonarr through the built in snap store. It seemed to go well but when I tried to add a series it lacked the permissions to make the required directory. I am going to try to uninstall it and do it manually through the terminal as root unless someone can suggest a better way.
