I might be misremembering 11 years ago, but why did an SRD post apparently think this guy was banned by “the jews?” That seems a bit extreme even for 2014 reddit, especially in a relatively mainstream sub like SRD?

StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•BlizzCon is returning in 2026 after a few years offEnglish2·7 个月前BOI is there because it popularized Rogue Lites, or basically games with procedurally generated maps and permadeath, with some upgrades and unlocks that persist through your runs. It’s been a huge genre in the past decade ish, especially among indie games.
Battle Royale isn’t just the shrinking map, it’s also the massive player count and free for all nature where everyone starts with almost nothing and gets weapons as they find them. PUBG also got its lunch eaten by Fortnite, which popularized the battle pass, but that’s a monetization innovation moreso than gameplay.
Bullet Heaven is one that’s new enough that there aren’t that many games in the genre, but it’s basically a Rogue Lite where your main verb is moving and picking skills when you level up. Basically you’re picking skills to keep huge waves of enemies away from you for a set amount of time.
Point being, most of the innovation is in smaller indie projects. I’d look there if you want interesting ideas. The big dogs you asked about are either still around and so successful at what they do that they take up all the air in the room or their entire genre crumbled around them and morphed into something else.
And Minecraft is the only new thing you mentioned. Dune 2 was made by the same company as C&C and came out three years before, while WOW is something like the 5th big MMORPG, after ultima Online, Everquest, Final Fantasy 11, and EQ2. I’m also not confident that Minecraft is totally original, but it’s probably the most original of that selection.
StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•BlizzCon is returning in 2026 after a few years offEnglish3·7 个月前Because C&C (along with the RTS genre in general) was killed and everyone interested in that genre either started playing DOTA or LOL, or the surviving hybrid genre games like Total War, WOW absorbed all the features of its competition except for what it couldn’t (good music and writing), so it’s living alongside its main competition, FFXIV, and Minecraft is just a multiplayer sandbox that is still incredibly popular and developers have been working on and releasing features for it for its entire lifetime. It is its own sequel a few times over. The big innovative games between now and Minecraft are probably Binding of Isaac for rogue lites, PUBG introducing the Battle Royale genre, Vampire Survivors for inventing Bullet Heaven.
StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto Linux@lemmy.ml•Tell one thing that you miss after switching from another OS to Linux.3·10 个月前I think the module I’m using, which could be Kingmaker or any number of other modules, might be gpu accelerated. Idk why exactly, but having the view for my players on the second monitor while mine is on the main causes it to dramatically slow down and freeze within a minute or so, to the point where the browser window doesn’t click and drag. All I really know is that it works on xorg and not on Wayland, and no distro that runs well in this accursed laptop is stable (endeavor OS turned off my Nvidia drivers in an update and ran everything through the amd apu) or comes with an xorg version of the DE (Fedora Bazzite also doesn’t have this, but at least it works otherwise). I transitioned to a purely online game at that time for other reasons, but I was looking longingly at how Windows users don’t have to put up with that bullshit, or at least not nearly as much.
StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto Linux@lemmy.ml•Tell one thing that you miss after switching from another OS to Linux.1·10 个月前Man, I just want Foundry VTT to work on my second monitor, it used to work but all the distros that moved over to Wayland DEs exclusively mean that I can’t use the thing I want and have the laptop do it’s one job of displaying foundry on my table TV. I guess what I really want is for Nvidia so put out better Wayland drivers.
The only place the OK City bombing was considered a war was inside Timothy McVeigh’s diseased mind, so I would contest that his rental van was not a technical, but mostly on a technicality.
Now the question is: is this a technical?

Here are the first two articles I found about it. Add that to the fact that he’s the worst part of basically every movie he’s in and he did shit like mail used condoms to his costars on Suicide Squad in the name of “method acting” and I feel like the general disgust with him being the main character in any movie, particularly one someone would otherwise be interested in is warranted.

StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto Movies@lemmy.world•Have you ever been to a movie so terrible that you saw people leaving the theater? Which one was it?English1·2 年前That wasn’t Shruiken, that was, like, a shadow dragon he summoned with his shadow power or something. Created for the movie so they could have a more exciting climax than a one on one sword duel ended by an elf magically shattering a ruby as large as a house directly over said duel before diving into it on the back of a pissed off dragon, providing the distraction needed for the hopelessly outmatched hero to stab the unholy abomination through the heart. That might sound awesome to you, because it is. Shruikan was the post credits reveal.

StarPupil@ttrpg.networkto Technology@lemmy.world•In Cringe Video, OpenAI CTO Says She Doesn’t Know Where Sora’s Training Data Came FromEnglish42·2 年前An AI (in its current form) isn’t a person drawing inspiration from the world around it, it’s a program made by people with inputs chosen by those people. If those people didn’t ask permission to use other people’s licensed work for their product, then they are plagiarising that work, and they should be subject to the same penalties that, for example, a game company using stolen art in their game should face. An AI doesn’t become inspired, it copies existing things to predict what it thinks its user wants to see. If we produce a real thinking AI at some point in the future, one with self determination and whatnot, the story will be different, but for now it isn’t.
Also the sheer amount of stuff they print. They are continuously putting out high quality adventures with a storyline that makes sense and doesn’t have giant blank spots that you’re expected to fill in for a few levels. They’re switching to a quarterly hardcover model instead of a monthly adventure next year. The rulebooks are nice and paizo isn’t shy about making new ancestries, classes, and options for existing ones, and they balance the more odd or possibly unbalanced options by making them uncommon or rare such that they require GM approval to take. And a whole bunch of setting books that examine all corners of their world, from over views of whole continents to deep dives into specific cities.
