62·1 day agoTomorrow (November 5th) is Election Day. Go vote. And get informed and vote in every election, local, State, and Federal thereafter. If you don’t, this will continue to happen. The States have this power only because we, the citizens of those States gave it to them, or worse yet, said nothing as they took it for themselves.
If you don’t vote, then don’t go complaining later if the result isn’t what you want.

Try http://ip_address:3001 , if that fails try https.

Dumbass.More and more I’m appreciating my decision to selfhost Nextcloud when I decided to start moving away from Google. All nonsense like this affects for me personally (should Dropbox crash and burn) is some redundant backups.

21·3 days agoOff-hand? Algorithm driven social media, “news” media generally, politicians, family/kids. The last is at least usually tolerable, or at least correctable. The rest should be taken only in moderation with a mound full of salt.
22·4 days agoCheck the data sheet or user manual for your equipment or battery, but generally batteries should be stored indoors at a human comfortable temp and humidity.

Users, though. I’ll block trolls all day long. If I notice I’m blocking a whole bunch of users from the same instance, I’ll block the instance. So far that has only happened twice. Lemmygrad and feddit.ro.
Well, they are a Chinese company. That they will need to comply will the laws of China doesn’t surprise me.

After writing this, I thought I could use another flashlight, but seems that Ryobi has discontinued the P705 and seems to have replaced it with the PCL660 which has a different form factor.
I know the feeling. Most of those features are only useful in low probability events.
If you’re looking for simple flashlights, Maglight has always made decent flashlights, though I’ve been buying Ryobi flashlights for the last 15 years as they are relatively affordable and I’ve already a bunch of their 18v batteries. Not sure how weather proof they are but I’ve never had an issue with the “new” (I think it’s a 10 year old design) led flashlights.
In my profession (trucking) the only thing that matters is preventable/nonpreventable. Liability is something for the insurance company to worry about (mostly).
This might be an interesting topic to suggest to Mike Rafi or Legal Eagle though.
I know it’s a joke question but here’s a serious answer:
I would treat it same as any other aircraft landing on the roadway. Give them space to do their thing because objects of greater potential energy ALWAYS have right of way, regardless of what liability laws say. Can’t sue ‘em if you’re dead.
As for laws, a quick search didn’t find anything in Federal or Alabama law about it except that the FAA here in the US says pilots consider it only as a last resort option due to safety concerns. If figure it’s probably not a common enough occurrence for laws to be made about it. Other states or counties may have something about it though.
Pretty much any “trade” job will have what you’re looking for. Most have good unions.
Probably the only trade that is the exception to that would be the trucking industry. This is where I am.
Decent pay, relatively easy to enter, but it’s a lifestyle, not so much a job and the Teamsters (the main trucking union) and I very much don’t get along. That is an understatement due to community and instance guidelines. We’ve had… words.
Not always. I live in Alabama. Usually in and out in 20 minutes. But then I do live in a more suburban area.
I suspect the fact that I had to think a minute before I could name a recently released western cartoon that wasn’t Disney or aimed at the under 6 crowd may have something to do with it.
Sadly Saturday Morning cartoons just aren’t a thing anymore in the US.
As for comics, when was the last time you saw a comic at a grocery store or gas station? I know Marvel still makes comics but I haven’t seen them in a store in almost 30 years.
Japan likes their anime and manga so there’s a lot of variety, but for whatever reason our corporate overlords here in America decided that we didn’t want our equivalent anymore.
TLDR: Vote anyways, and make your voice heard.
The way that the US is setup, actual power and authority, does not actually exist at the Federal level. Not really. Not over you as an individual. And your individual vote at the Federal level will not really move the needle.
The actual authority and power over your life exists at the State and local levels. And this is where your vote can actually make a real difference as well, because elections at these levels are often decided by mere hundreds of votes. Your local elections are often decided by mere 10’s of votes.
The most powerful of all, however, are the local school boards, which are often elected positions. However, decisions made by school boards don’t make changes to your community over night, however. It takes years for the children they teach to grow up and begin exerting their control over the system.
That will happen. I’m sorry that’s not the answer you want. It is difficult to make large changes to society or governments in a hurry. You can think of society and governments like large boulders. The larger the society or government, the larger the boulder.
A handful of people might move that boulder slowly over time, more people though, can move that boulder more quickly. And of course, a much faster or larger boulder could always strike it and move it quickly, though not necessarily predicably.
Sticking with the physics frame of reference, as an individual person, you have all the control you could ever want. You just don’t have enough power or “force” to make much happen at larger scales. The physics frame of reference breaks down somewhat, though, as a single voice, well spoken and well presented, at the right time, can not only move all the smaller pebbles (people) and the boulder (society or governments), but an entire damned mountain and can move it precisely.
