a lot of everyday words or even slang can be described as offensive or racist if the listener deems them this way - or because the history of certain words is rooted in racism.

you wanna tell the whole linux community that “ricing” is an offensive term?

you wanna tell marxists that quote “it’s either socialism or barbarism” that the term “barbarian” is a racist term used by romans?

you wanna tell polish boomers that they shouldn’t say “a jew hung himself” to refer to windy weather?

a miniscule amount of people think about the racial or xenophobic implications because certain things are too ingrained in society.

keep the spirit up, you go guys, but these things won’t go away for the next few generations.

stuff like this just fuels infighting with no real goal. - fighting actual racism and systemic racism. getting hung up on unimportant details will just alienate people who’d be sympathetic to the cause.

we also likely live in different societies so we have different approaches to how racism is perceived. this discourse reeks of being american.

everyone will feel offended at anything you say.

nice example of a philippino person being offended by it.

if i told my philippino friend abt it he’d dismiss these concerns.

    different strokes for different folks.

bottom line: playing word police is problematic in itself.

just don’t be a dick and you’re good.

  • look man, yes - there are fascists in ukraine (but not too many and they can’t dictate shit) yes - ukraine has a weird relationship with it’s past yes - nato basically expanded to russia’s borders yes - a newspaper called kyivindependent will try to paint russians as monsters (despite the fact this particular case factually happened)

BUT this war doesn’t benefit the workers of either countries. this war caused the death of about 1 million people, be it young conscripted russian men, ukrainian men, civilians on either side etc. it doesn’t matter. it’s 1000000 lives lost and for what? no sane person will say the “denazification” is a valid reason, same as the “fight for the native russians stuck in ukraine” and less so the “fight against the fascist regime” the invader is a country led by slimy opportunists who privatized everything after the fall of the soviet union. and the invaded are basically the same but cozied up with “le evil west”

i’d be willing to understand your viewpoint if you sent me theory that supports your view. because i haven’t yet read any that compelled me to dehumanize a group of people or a country and support either side of a war with clear economic interest.
