Edit: 3 points. I guess I struggle with addition now D:
After reading I now appreciate David Gerard’s dedication.
Sometimes I upvote/downvote posts and comments on accident while scrolling… I might be giving people too much credit though.
I don’t think she’s the Disney in charge.
Trump is a legitimate threat to democracy.
So shouldn’t we send literally anybody else? Isn’t Biden’s approval rating sub 40%?
I agree with lesser evil voting and harm reductuon, but we’re not voting yet. They can maybe run somebody who might not throw the election.
When you’re as old as the pope setting up a website seems like a miracle.
But what if the person on the other side was parked over the line and I had to leave space to get out and then they left and now I look like I parked like an asshole and then some asshole uses that as an excuse to ding my car.
The article above, that you didn’t read, talks about the speaker of the house and surveyed Americans.
It was a joke about entrapment. It wasn’t an endorsement of America’s police.
I’m not falling for that officer.
It was meant to be a self depreciating joke, but now I can’t help myself. I think this topic ends up having everybody involved make a bunch of assumptions about each other before it begins.
However, I have experienced people say that they, “don’t want to get political,” right after being confronted for saying something misinformed, hurtful, etc. It can be weaponized as an excuse to avoid self reflection.
I know that isn’t the case for everybody, but I have seen, “don’t make things political,” used as, “don’t bring in politics at odds with my own.” It’s often not even recognized by that person as being hypocritical. Sometimes our own politics can become the default in our mind and everybody else’s view is the “political” one.
Your apathy is part of the problem.
Yes, I am that friend/relative.
There’s a big difference between a bigger slice of the pie and taking all of the pies and making everybody share the crumbs. It’s an incomprehensible wealth disparity.
Blocking indivuals, communities, and instances is helpful for the individual, but it does not deal with the root of the problem. Allowing a space for bigotry to grow.
This isn’t the same as people wanting to block your favorite hobby or something. I don’t think it’s a good thing to provide a space for bigots to share their ideas.
Facebook attempts to join- “We must stop this to prevent corporate power and growth.” Bigots join- “Let’s hear them out.”
Indivually blocking users, communities, and instances still allows those communities to grow. Saying, “if bigotry bothers you just don’t look at it,” does nothing to get to the root of the issue. The problem is not just that some people don’t want to see bigots. The problem is that we are allowing for a place that nurters the growth of bigots.
I think conspiracy theorists and nazis should feel persecuted.
I don’t think the answer is to give them a platform as if their ideas are somehow valid or worth discussing. To treat those ideas as equal to others is to elevate them.
Pence was Trump’s last Vice President. His politics are as bad as any other republican, but he did the bare minimum of admitting to losing the last election and didn’t take part in any of the election overthrowing funny business.
