Oh there’s several ways, especially if you have poor opsec. People used to raid people’s twitch accounts and bring down their internet connections by looking for their username on Skype which had a vulnerability which they could use to find a person’s IP.

For swatters on the otherhand, they tend to either know the streamer themselves or they tend to be groups like KiwiFarms who are a lot more organised and do a lot of research and detective work, like looking at the video, looking for usernames elsewhere, looking for emails, and looking for location clues. It’s really fucked up. They found Keffels’s Motel by the sheets in her room. It’s bad enough if you do not think about these things and just have sloppy OpSec, but even if you do, they can still find you.

A lot more regularly that they do in the rest of the UK.

So (not so) fun fact: Keffals, who was targeted by KiwiFarms for being trans (yes that’s all) and got Swatted. She then went to stay with another streamer (EllenFromNowOn) in Northern Ireland. Just for information sake, Northern Ireland is still a bit rocky security wise, Police there still carry guns on the regular. So when she went there, Ellen called up the police and explained the situation to them (they had never heard of Swatting weirdly enough).

Sure enough, someone found her flat, posted her address (with a message referencing a Unionist Slogan, Ellen was from the Catholic Community), and sure enough, the police came. Instead of raiding her all guns blasing (which they normally would) they saw the warning, knocked on the door, saw nothing was wrong, called off the squaddies, and came in to basically make sure everything was okay.

Bare in mind, this was in Northern Ireland, a place where the Police still drive Armored cars and have regular riots, and they handled this better than the Police in London, Ontario.

So fun fact: In the UK, elections and votes are always on a Thursday because it was the furthest day from Saturday (when people went to the pub) and Sunday (when people went to church, this rule was instituted when people were more religious).

Now my local polling place was my local school (which changed with Covid because they didn’t want to interrupt education even more) so when I was a kid when there was an election we always got election day off. :)

Yeah but you see, the suburbs vote for the people in power.

Since I moved from a red state to Colorado it’s been mind blowing how painless and accessible it is to vote in this state.

I think that is something we need to stress here: A lot of people in America don’t vote not because they are apathetic but because, well, they often don’t have access because they have to work and can’t get time off, and it doesn’t help that certain states cut and limit the amount of voting places to prevent people from voting.

I remember seeing the images from Georgia in 2020 where there were queues around the block, hell, some fucking states have laws preventing people from offering water for people waiting in line, knowing that people will be waiting in line for a long time. And the fact the places where those polling stations tend to be set up in ways to stop certain demographics from voting is another thing. There’s laws there to prevent students from voting in some states, there’s laws making it hard to vote by mail, you fucking name it.

Meanwhile in the UK, I just had to fill in a PDF form and send it to my local valuation office and I could get a postal vote. No restrictions on who can do this, you can just apply.

• You have school “voucher” schemes for religious schools, which do shit like teach kids that Evolution is wrong because of the bible.
• You added “In God we Trust” do your money and added “Under God” to the pledge of allegiance in the 1950s (The pledge, with or without it, is in itself a form of state worship).
• You have had presidents (Reagan, Bush II) openly promote the idea that America is a Christian state through historical falsehoods.
• One of the most powerful factions in your government are American Evangelicals who have used their power to promote religious based laws, especially against women and minorities.
• Every President in recent times has had to show themselves to be openly Christian, with “not being christian (enough)” being a common attack strategy.

And that’s just Christianity, if I was going to go into how you worship the state…

• You have Four Faces of Presidents carved on a literal sacred mountain.
• You make your kids pledge allegiance to the state every morning (I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands).
• You have two (2) congress funded art pieces that depict George Washington as a God (Washington Enthroned and The Apotheosis of Washington), the latter of which is in the oculus of the Rotunda at Congress for everyone to see.
• The Lincoln Memorial is straight up designed like a Greco-Roman Temple.
• You have, as a social norm, displaying your flag outside your house.

How is that not going to be interpreted as “religious”?

Now, I know someone is going to be all “lol aren’t you from the uk where you worship the royal family” well guess fucking what:

1. Barely anyone in the UK worships the royals, especially where I’m from (Scotland) and the people who do even in England are considered weird. Our relationship with the Royals as a country is usually one of aggressive irreverence. My family’s nicknames for the king includes “The Jug Eared Dwarf”, “Chuckie III” and “Tearlach an Chluas”.
2. Despite having two (2) established churches (Church of England and Church of Scotland), non religious people make up the majority and the UK is aggressively secular.
3. Despite the established religion and having the (in practice) head of state also be the (in practice) head of the Church, none of our politicians try and use religion to justify their bullshit and those who do are considered wankers.

America, in the eyes of most of the world, is aggressively religious, not just in terms of christianity but also in worship of the state.

Teachers can make this backfire by teaching kids about how Jesus said, among other things:

• Rich people don’t go to heaven
• Jesus’s answer to religious people not wanting to see things was for the people complaining to pluck out their eyes.
• How Jesus told his followers to sell their shit and give it to the poor.

All things republicans hate because it goes against their ideals. Also they can talk about how in Acts it says Christians lived communally or just read James 5:1-6 verbatim.

But I guarantee the schools will force their teachers only to read parts of the bible that the state demand, because it’s not about Christianity, it’s about using religion to control people.

Oh they understand people fuck, and the people who want to ban abortion and contraception want people to have kids they didn’t want for various reasons.
