I have a 22 kia with remote start. I also have the app (that costs the same as this post so I don’t pay either). The remote start sets the car to 72 with nothing else on. No way to change it via settings. Paying for the app remote start is the only way to do the defroster, heated seats, steering wheel, etc. It’s so fucking lame.
The spectra is both the highest rated and it doesn’t use an app. We have the one with the battery and it is so so convenient and easy to use.
It’s only accessible while parked.

If you ask this on any car blog, people will emphatically say that you do not NEED AWD. What you really need are a set of dedicated winter tires. Winter tires make a huge difference in snow, if you live in an area with a lot of it.
Having said this, you should check out the Car and Driver’s buyers guide on their website to see what peaks your interest. Tons of great options. Subaru Crosstrek, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Tuscon, Mazda Cx-50… it goes on and on! Then check out Doug Demuro’s reviews of any cars that strike your fancy. His reviews are crazy thorough and give you the best idea of what a car is like, before even stepping into a dealer lot.
I, too, love cars, so hit me up with any questions.
What are some of those communities you’re in for cars and tinkering? I was subscribed to both of those topics on reddit and am looking to join. I think there are probably lots like me who are here but not quite up and running.
I have actually heard, from someone who has worked with him, he’s extremely difficult to work with.
