  • I’ve got a out gay cousin. Racist. Transphobic. Republican.

Always. And I mean always. Tries to pick a fight with me about some new political topic every time I see him.

He wants to own the libs so hard. Always starts his shit around others. Says something like. Black people shouldn’t get reperations.

I explain how racism exists in the systems. Basics of critical race theory. Give statistics.
He just ignores that says “that ain’t how it works. Everyone chooses their place”.

    Yada yada.

    That type of shit.

Or how he knows a trans woman who likes football and I need to “explain that” to him.

Ive just been avoiding him for 3 years straight. He’s just gotten worse over the years.

A walking contradiction in more ways than I care to explain.

It’s crazy to me that these people exist. Like. How can anyone have literally zero self awareness.?

Unpopular opinion. But my experience has been that the people who have road rage the worst, are incredibly hostile, aggressive, reckless, and dangerous drivers.

they are always riding other drivers ass. Cutting them off. Refusing to let other drivers in. Whipping around fast any time anyone in front of them isn’t going 10 miles over the speed limit. Just the worst drivers.

They cause accidents too. I know two such guys. They both have a long history of car accidents. Whereas I, a non hostile friendly driver, have none. And I’m 40.
It’s because I don’t drive like an jackass. These are the same kind of men who insist women can’t drive. Yet my record compared to theirs says otherwise.

If I see someone trying to merge. I make room for them.

I don’t drive right up behind people. I don’t honk if they are going a little below the speed limit. I mean there are speed cams all over cities.

It’s normal for people to be a little conservative with speed to not get those $150 tickets.

Sometimes people are new to the area. Or trying to follow a gps.

I doubt anyone is driving slow just to fuck with me. A stranger in another car. You know?

I also don’t assume people are intentionally trying to fuck up my day. No one drives perfect 24/7. We all miss our turn. Occasionally forget to check before merging. People make mistakes. Getting angry is not productive or helpful.

I don’t get mad at people for messing up one time. You know? But if they are driving aggressively and putting other people at risk I sometimes do use some passive aggressive methods to block them in so they can’t swerve like a maniac around other cars and cause an accident.

It’s pretty rare that I do that but I have. This comes from my opinions on anti-social behavior in society needing to be discouraged. You may or may not agree with my stance on this. ("Anti social refers to disruptive hostile social behaviors, not how much of an introvert someone is).

One time I did it, it was apparently an unmarked cop car. They kept using the shoulder to weave in and out of slow traffic. Very aggressively. Forcing themselves between cars. Not waiting for gaps.

So I slightly pulled to the right to block them from using the shoulder to keep doing it. Then they flashed their lights at me. I’m certain they were not on a cop mission. Just an asshole entitled cop. Otherwise he would have just drove on the shoulder with his lights on.

Being a cop doesn’t mean you get to drive where you put other people at risk because you think you shouldn’t have to sit in traffic. Everyone has places they need to get to. That’s why we are all in cars driving.

I never said the authors didn’t discuss this. I was explaining it to people less familiar with this issue.

I realize the results support general face recognition. Pigeons are pretty good at visual discrimination on trained/experienced material.

But results should still be considered somewhat “unnatural” as the research was not on normally developed pigeons.

Interesting story: the university I attended used to have a professor who had pigeon housing on the roof of the psych building and would use wild pigeons for experiments. He fed the birds to coax them to participate.

Very ethical because essentially the birds volunteered. And high quality results because they were average wild pigeons in experience and ability.

However the university shut it all down.

This was before my time there but that’s the story I was told.

  • Imagine for a moment that you have never seen a photo of yourself , ever. Or anyone who is a human.

Your whole life you grew up in a white room with other animals like you in cages.

The problem with using 2d images in animal research is that it is assumed that animals understand what photos are.

But they probably don’t. Or at least they don’t rely on them or interpret them like we do. From a young age we watch tv. Read picture books. Look at photos albums. Even draw each other.

Animals don’t have those experiences. Especially lab animals. They don’t even have the experience of seeing billboards or posters.

This is a huge problem in forming any type of conclusions from animal research like this.

It’s not impossible. But their perception is not like a humans.

They don’t see a photograph of a bird and recognize it’s their kind they are looking at.

They probably just think it’s a screen or paper. Or something like that.

Because 2d is unnatural. They likely have limited ability to understand it’s a representation.

Even humans have to learn to interpret representations (I can explain this more if someone asks).

How do birds identify each other?

Sounds they make ? Location? Movements ?

I’m not sure exactly but I doubt it’s solely visual face recognition.

Even dogs use smell more than visual face recognition.

It’s still an interesting study. But we just have to keep in mind the limitations I mentioned when interpreting the results.

  • I told a friend of mine with chickens that parrots love beak rubs. And I would bet chickens do too.

Next time I saw him be told me his buddies were calling him the chicken whisperer cause now all the chickens come up to him for beak rubs.

Give that a try with yours and see if it helps build trust.

Chickens are pretty cool too. Honestly I have a soft spot for most birds.

  • I have thought of fostering. But now I have two cats.
But if I’m ever in a long term place with the space, I would definitely consider taking in rescue birds.

Im rather fond of birds. I used to make JoJo toys and play areas. And helped him groom his pin feathers.

I even taught him a few tricks.

But they are very complex animals. And they need room to fly. When I had jo I worked from home and had a huge living room and a long hallway. So he was rarely in his cage and would fly up and down the hallway.

He had play areas by the window. Top of his cage. And one next to my work station.

They need a lot of stimulation. And social interactions.

I used to have a parrot. A male. After he was a few years old he realized my hand was warm. Very warm. And nicely curved.

And he hunched down while I was holding him and wiggles his little butt on my hand.

I realized what was going on. But I didn’t want him to do this on me because 1. It made me feel gross. 2. I worried it would make him confused about our relationship.

He only ever did it a few times but when he did. I would gently remove him from my hand and put him on his perch.

So he knew he wasn’t in trouble. But that I wasn’t going to let him use my hand.

I get online. Of course. See what other people are saying.

Some were saying it’s fine. Let the bird rub one out on your hand/shoulder…wherever.

Some said they disciplined the birds by squirting them with water when they did it.

Now I feel like masturbating is natural. Especially for an isolated animal. I mean. Common. Let them have that.

But I don’t think I should be involved.

So I got this idea from watching a documentary about Real Dolls.

So I made my parrot a fabric stuffed bird companion. Same size as him. Same colors.

But he never touched it. I spent like 4 hours hand stitching that parrot sex doll for him.

But the heart wants what the heart wants.

I removed the bespoke stuffed parrot from his play area after about a month.

I never saw him rub his rump on anything else. I felt kinda bad that he couldn’t have that small pleasure for himself but it is what it is.

He would get rather aggressive during mating season so I really hoped he would figure out how to relieve his own tension.

He only lived about 6 years and died from a heart problem. His species usually lives around 35.

Miss my little JoJo. He was the most interesting pet I’ve ever had. But probably wont get another parrot. They are not really domesticated animals.

So I actually found a pic of the bird and the sex doll bird.

  • I think there has been some efforts to clean it but in India , so I’m told, there are some cultural ideas about polluting and littering that are difficult to get people to address.

And also it’s common to bury people in the river. So it’s full of decomposing bodies too.

I grew up near the Mississippi River and that river is almost as dirty as this one.

I was told as a kid that at one time it was crystal clear.

    It’s hard to imagine.

Now it’s muddy and gross and you can’t eat anything from it. And if you swim in it, you should probably get a tetnus booster.

Sad to see some of the largest rivers in the world completely destroyed.

  • I did regular reddit meetups about 6 years ago. Did them for 3 years.

They were started by me (a woman) and two other women redditors.

Us 3 were the first meetup. We posted a photo in the local city.

Next meetup was about half gals, half men. Maybe 20 people.

We have a pic. But. Since me and my friend who posted the first photo- accounts are perma banned I can’t seem to find it.

    Well.
Here is what I found on my imgur looking for it. Vintage meme. Enjoy.

Oh also I visited Amsterdam once. And just so happened to be a reddit meetup. So I went with some dude I met at the hostel. His name was Trey. He was douchey but okay company, I guess.

Met some cool Canadian guy though that I’m still friends with on fb.

Anywho. Plenty of chicks there too. Near 50/50.
