Once upon a time when the internet was small and niche, this may have been true. Now, it’s a firehose of information that is constantly available in your pocket. It’s healthy to curate that space to reflect your interests in your precious little time on earth. If you want to pop your bubble so badly, go out and talk to people! Make real connections instead of falling for engagement bait online that only leaves you frustrated and isolated.

politics @lemmy.world•Ken Paxton defeats GOP Sen. John Cornyn in Texas primary runoff
37·13 days agoYou’re not incorrect to feel that way, but for context, this is a republican primary. The only people voting for this are the ones without enough shame to have changed their party affiliation in the past 1-10 years, so there’s definitely a sampling bias in these specific results. We won’t know what the rest of the voters want until November.

181·4 months agoThe goal isn’t to actually prevent those people from playing the game, obviously that’s not possible. The goal is to piss them off so it’s obvious to the other people they would be playing with that they are not fun or maybe safe to be around.

politics @lemmy.world•Donald Trump and Andrew Cuomo secretly talked on the phone as Trump weighs endorsement in N.Y.C. mayoral race: report
4·10 months agoI think you’re correct, if Trump orchestrates all of that (Sliwa and Adams both dropping out) without explicitly endorsing, that could be a threat. But Trump is toxic waste in NYC. Of course everywhere has their share of assholes, but NYers have a long memory for crises specifically. Trump deliberately targeted them during covid, bragged about his building height during 9/11, I could go on. They hate his guts way more than they hate Cuomo.

politics @lemmy.world•Donald Trump and Andrew Cuomo secretly talked on the phone as Trump weighs endorsement in N.Y.C. mayoral race: report
151·10 months agoI can’t think of anything more campaign sinking than an endorsement from Trump in an NYC mayoral race (that Cuomo already lost within his own proported party).
Recycling plastics specifically. Aluminum recycles amazingly well, and glass decently, so keep recycling those!

3·11 months agoI agree with the general trend of advice in this thread, but I’m going to go one step further: monetizing your hobbies is a very good way to get burnt out on those hobbies. Finding good work that you enjoy is important! But you should also have some things that are just for you.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the difference between a platonic and a romantic relationship?
15·11 months agoSome people are asexual but not aromantic, and some people can’t have sex due to medical issues, so there are plenty of people out there who separate these! A lot of folks do experience them as entangled experiences, and that’s fine too. What’s important is finding what parts work for you, and a partner that is compatible with that if applicable.

121·11 months agoThe niche coffee scene in the US uses them, they are excellent for pour overs, French press, etc. But they are not widely popular since dedicated coffee machines are most commonly used.

4·11 months agoI did read your comment, that is why I responded the way I did. If you can’t link that minorities are the ones affected by racism, I don’t think that you should be commenting on racial politics in the US.

politics @lemmy.world•Congressman Brandon Gill tells mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani "Go back to the Third World"
7·11 months agoHave you considered that your perspective on the matter could be skewed by your own inability to take critique maturely? Most adults are able self-reflect and grow as people from interactions with others of differing perspectives. It’s only a small percentage who react violently, and frankly, they are bullies who should not be catered to.
