I’m actually excited about this. I feel like it captures the vibes of RE.

Ask Science@lemmy.world•If you were stationary, and talking to someone moving at lightspeed, would they appear to be speaking in slow motion due to time dilation?English
5·3 days agoSo, I would assume that you would be communicating through radio waves. If an object broadcasting a signal moving at the speed light away from you, I would further assume you experience a severe Doppler effect. To the point that I don’t think you would experience anything coherent. You would receive small packets of information at a time, scattered across several million years.
This is just my initial impression on the fly, do not take this as any sort of gospel. I also did some communcations work for a time. So, this is tickling my brain and I might spend the rest of my evening in my books.

2·4 days agoThis bothers me as well. Fewer is for quantities. Less is for unquantifiable things. E.g. I need less water and fewer sprinklers for my garden.
edit: expanding on this, you can always think about it like, I don’t have five waters (unless you’re in a restaurant?), but I can have five sprinklers.
Vader is clearly trying to decide what to order on the menu.

391·7 days agoThe language she uses is why I despise the evangelical movement. It deigns us powerful and that leads to abuse of that power and supercilious arrogance that you are forever justified. No wonder the western christian church thinks their defecation smells of roses.

21·9 days agoWhen you see human lives as expendable, war becomes something as trivial as chess.
This callousness is saddening to see, continually. I’m exhausted. But I won’t let them win.
For that reason I say, I saw a little baby bee taking a face bath in my wildflower garden today. And an opossum came out from under my gazebo to say hi. These are the things to focus on. Yes, yes.

politics @lemmy.world•NPR receives $113 million in charitable gifts
122·10 days agoI totally get that. NPR has been painfully centrist, as a close friend and I describe, for quite some time. Hell, Sen. Johnson comes on every week to rant about liberals. But the gold is not their political coverage. The gold is shear dearth of knowledge they bring to people. I have learned so much, through public radio. So, I wanted you to at least know, there’s more to them, than just politics. I’m sure you do, but it can’t ever hurt, if it helps someone learn something new. Blessings unto you and your family.

31·11 days agoMy friend, please do not be angry with me. I was only speaking as to why the Arab community went for Trump. It is difficult to discuss politics. This kingdom, as many others will fall. Many people will die. Tale as old as time. Mashallah.

Yeah, I got friends/family out there, so I get it. Like most things in this world people draw a moral line in the sand and play the trolley problem. No answer is the right answer, unless that answer is zero violence.

Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•The Arab American community that helped propel Trump is now grappling with lran war's falloutEnglish
3937·12 days agoEdit: My brothers and sisters. My beloved family on the internet, please do not get harsh with each other. I was merely trying to demonstrate that this is a difficult issue and placing blame on the victims of a barbaric governmental system is ridiculous when it is the government to blame. Please be kind to one another. We are all victims of this cruel world. Let us instead grieve together. In Love. Bless all y’all
Well, to be kinder to them; their options were watch their family die, or a final hail Mary and maybe Trump can do something. He did seem to be pretty against the wars in the middle east, according to media. Which I know was deception. So, I dont fault them. I fault Harris for not just saying, “Yes. I will end Israel funding and end the war in Gaza.” She could have just done that and swept the win. But dems wanted to play party politics.
So, the people who are waking up every day to find a new family member dead, should not be faulted. The party that abandoned them should.
And lastly, put yourself in their shoes. You have two candidates. One says that what Israel is doing isn’t great, but isn’t bad and we should just keep rocking on. The other guy is the devil, but he’s saying that he’ll save your family. It’s hard to think when you’re in those situations.
Like most things, life is hard. It’s gray and nuanced and contradictory at times. But at the end of the day, it is what it is. We have no real control over elections anyway, because not enough people vote. Better to just read on the porch with a cup of coffee and watch the bombs drop wondering when it’ll end.

It’s fine to celebrate anyone’s death.
