  • Oregonian here. There’s currently over 100 fires burning across our state. 5 of them currently considered mega-fires.

Our state-level firefighters, as well as the federal-level are seriously, seriously underpaid. If you’re the letter-to-politician-writing type, please help advocate for better pay and benefits for our firefighters

I’ll second the Dickies. I used to wear Carhartt’s for work because they held up well. But lately they haven’t. The Dickies I’m currently rocking at work have so far held up really well, although I did just switch like 6 months ago. For what it’s worth, my poor, carpenter grandfather wore Dickies everything. Exclusively.

  • Great setup! It feels so good to have a such a big head-start on the growing season!

You’ll be feeling extra great when it comes time to plant in the ground and your starts are further along than anything you could have purchased or grown from seed right when the season starts.

    Post progress pics later!

  • At this time, any further comments on the cause of death are currently pending until toxicology results and other ancillary testing results are received,” the statement says. (Emphasis mine)

Benedict was able to walk out of the bathroom after the Feb. 7 fight but was taken to a hospital by their family and sent home that night. The next day, paramedics were dispatched to the home for a medical emergency and took Benedict to a hospital emergency room, where they later died, police said.

I really hope this doesn’t turn out to be self-inflicted… Either that, or that’s the angle the officials are hoping to imply in the meantime. This whole thing is so heartbreaking…

This is a common trope in these topics. And I gotta say, to be perfectly honest, that I hate it.

Leftists/anti-fascists also rely on having face coverings to protect themselves from state repression, and doxxing from nazis, despite being right in their beliefs.

I get where you’re coming from with the sentiment, I do. But rather than taking issue with the masks themselves, I’d recommend taking action (or at least encouraging it) and physically removing their masks so they can be properly doxxed themselves and face the consequences of their violent and hateful beliefs.

Edit: Case in point, here’s a link to a video of the Proud Boys fighting with another, smaller, local neo Nazi group where they start to de-mask each other, towards the end of the video. They know that being exposed to the public is detrimental to their livelihoods, but will still do it to each other whenever there’s a conflict.

Take note of that, and act accordingly.

  • Records show that timber companies and their trade groups have given Steiner $24,000 since 2020, most recently a $1,000 December donation from Weyerhaeuser, a major forestland owner. Golden’s financial disclosures list only one check from a timber company in his career, and the records show he gave the $500 to a nonprofit focused on restoring forests.

Steiner told ProPublica that her bill — cosponsored by one other Democrat and two Republicans — had nothing to do with campaign contributions and that Oregon’s history of cutting timber taxes is “only partially relevant to this particular conversation.”

“You can make an argument that we’re letting them off easy, or that we’re giving them the big tax break,” Steiner said. “And I’m gonna say, I don’t know, you may be right. It’s a bigger conversation.”

I will never not be angry at how little it takes for a politician to sell out their constituents. $25k over 3 years is apparently all it takes…

  • I appreciate you for making and working on this app

I’m a Reddit Is Fun user and soon to be full-time reddit refugee. Coming from RIF, this app already feels a bit intuitive, so thank you for that too.

I look forward to seeing how this app progresses, and Lemmy as a whole. Once I get my bearings here, maybe I can share some earnest input and/or suggestions
