News@lemmy.world•A shocking 92 percent of US adults are not going to the doctor because it’s too expensive
1·1 day agoUniversal healthcare will happen in the USA once my fellow Americans figure out that paying $8K a year in premiums is more than $2K a year in taxes. So. It could take awhile.

News@lemmy.world•A shocking 92 percent of US adults are not going to the doctor because it’s too expensive
8·1 day agoI know it’s easy to shit on America and it’s the thing to do currently, but when you cherry pick the worst situations, sure it looks like shit.
Americans, per capita, pay far more for healthcare than any other country, and have a much lower life expectancy than peer countries. By any metric we are getting a shitty deal, far worse than any other country. You cannot “both sides” this one. Privatized healthcare is an abject failure that should be abandoned as quickly as possible.

This isn’t me shitting on America, this is me realistically describing what is currently going on in America.

2·2 days agoHey, just asking the question is a good first step. Talk to people in your community (family, friends, workplace, the gym, wherever you spend time) about these problems. Ask them what they think. Gently suggest some solutions based on working together. If you really don’t have any solutions, say “then what are we supposed to do?” again, and brainstorm some ideas together.
I’m not who you asked but I’ve worked as a carpenter in the past; both types of doors can be soundproofed, it depends more on the surrounding doorframe/wall and weather the door itself has a solid core (quieter, but more $) or not.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•I'm right and the other vegans are wrong
1·3 days agoThey justified it as something to do with fish/shellfish not having the same kind of pain receptors and consciousness that “real” animals do and argued it was more akin to consuming fungi and bacteria. They didn’t eat dairy products or meat for more traditional vegan reasons. Since it’s this thread, i’ll say they also ate honey lol.
I don’t agree with them, and I do agree with everything you said here. I’m just saying, based on experiences in the field, when someone says to me “I’m vegan” internally I’m like “cool, so you eat whatever you want, just like everyone else” 😂

3·3 days agoThis post is funny because it sounds like you may not be aware of the whole cultural confluence/intentionally cultivated relationship between French and Japanese art (particularly in the fields of animation, woodworking, and video games) that’s been going on for well over a century now

They should balance it out with quiet hours or something. Or maybe a silent sauna and a chatty sauna
I also wonder, if he had said something normal immediately after entering it probably would have been fine. Imagine sitting in silence next to someone for 10 minutes and then they ask you a question. That’s weirder to me.

It’s a little more complicated than this, but basically it’s just a smaller, faster convection oven. They’re cool but not lifechanging IMO
There is no statistical evidence that AI helps any moneymaking process and there’s going to be a massive market correction over this pretty soon. I genuinely hope I’m wrong, but all the evidence points this way…
Microwaves are cool in theory but in practice the food is almost always soggy and mushy. Maybe I just don’t know how to use them, but I’m rarely happy with the result. Even reheating leftovers, I’d rather do in a saucepan

Weed is only legalized by states here, it’s still federally illegal
