  • This is the type of play I dream of AI refs eliminating from the game.

Lavine clearly does give Jimmy a little shove at the very last second of his hand-check, but some combination of biomechanics/physics should be able to determine the extent of that contact and discern whether or not the contact at that moment forced Butler into a reaction that led him out of bounds.

If Jimmy doesn’t go out of bounds here, no way there’s a whistle. But the leg flailing is pure theatrics, without question.

Probably like 25-40 years away though from that type of AI, unlucky.

I’m not saying a human shouldn’t be able to either btw, but the fact is that they do, consistently. Tennis has been much more enjoyable for me with electronic line-calling, and for such a subjectively officiated game like basketball/football/actual football,

Hell, even with technology, VAR is a disaster in the EPL. Need consistent/impartial technology for sport. The people that think the lack of officiating drama would hurt the game hurt my brain.

  • You might not be old enough to remember the scandal clearly enough, since Donaghy was willing to sing for anyone and everyone that would listen, be it interviews, his book, authorities, whoever.

He made his accusations very clear. The whole thing about being a “company man” and choosing which video complaints to enforce in the playoffs to make series/playoffs in general better for the NBA. The Kings vs Lakers series stands out in that regard.

People conveniently forget that the FBI/NBA already investigated Scott Foster. It’d be ridiculous not to, given the amount of phone calls that happened between the two during the season.

This whole “NBA refs are all corrupt” just doesn’t pass occam’s razor in the least. Similar energy as “jet fuel doesn’t can’t melt steel beams”.
